I know we have talked before how Ethanol can damage our older cars, I just came across this article https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/ethanol-is-poison-for-the-environment/ar-AAYVeCk?li=BBnbfcL So take it for what it is and give it likes if you read it, but since politics is a no-no on the H.A.M.B. keep any comments on this non-political. Thanks
I might view it differently if I lived in a corn state rather than an oil state, but ethanol is only cost viable due to subsidies. I better stop or I'll get started on wind turbine subsidies next.
Not trying to be political but it's not good for our engines. I avoid ethanol like the plague, My only reason to use it would be to get enough gas to get to a station that sells non-ethanol. HRP
Like HRP I also use no Ethanol unless no other choice. Good to have close stations that carry non ethanol.
When I found a station in Wa. that sold non ethanol gas I filled up the A and noticed a difference. She seems to idle and run smoother. Not a huge boost in power but better MPG in her and the outback. Mike
I've used 10 % for years - absolutely no problem with it. One car, which had been down for about 3 years with only intermittant starts showed no deposits after I decided to have the carb rebuilt. Did not use any junk in the gas like Sta-Bil. My son had the opposite situation when using Sta-Bil. Gunked up his carb something terrible.
Like the article says, it's been a known problem for a long time, but the corn & soy producer's lobby strong armed the Bush Administration into forcing it on us. There may be some relief if the biofuel mandate is waived, but there's a lot of money at stake either way. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/bi...-waiver-could-ease-food-inflation-2022-03-03/
Coal, oil, and natural gas receive subsidies also. We are running a corporate welfare state too. Middle cl*** doesn't stand a chance.
Our local volunteer fire department received a letter from a national fire fighters ***ociation recommending that all small engines and any mission critical equipment be fueled with non ethanol only. The shelf life on e10 was too short and if the engine was a two stroke the alcohol didn't play well with the oil in the pre mix. Next time they need to use the jaws of life to get you out better hope that thing starts! It also pointed out engines with fuel injection AND sealed fuel systems did fine if all components were designed to work with e10 but the shelf life should be considered even with these systems. I will run e10 in the summer if I know I am going to be driving my old cars enough to run it through in a short amount of time but they always get non ethanol before they are stored for the winter. I too have had problems with Stabil plugging up my carburetors in several different engines.
For those who dont know here is the website for alcohol-free gas stations https://www.pure-gas.org/ its about half a buck more where i live...about $6.20 gal
I run E10 all summer. The last 2 tanks I run yhe wicked expensive 100% gas ($1+ more/gal). And I put 2 stroke oil in the carb. All my small engines get non-ethinol but I can't afford to run it in my 59 with as much as I drive it. I've had excellent luck over the past 20 years storing cars with 50:1 2 stroke oil.
