Today's gotta be the best - productive! "Sunday" - I've had in a long, LONG while. Not only was it the sunniest, DRIEST day we've had here in probably a month, but I actually had the day off, this time. So of course I got rockin' on the '57. Yeah, I'm a fool for not having it back in a garage for winter yet. But being the fool as it is, I've also been On It, keeping the daily dew & surface rust at bay while not finding (and affording) extra garage space, 'til it was clear 'n dry enough to primer her up. And had I gotten hold of the neighbor to use his outlet for the air compressor (as we'd planned) it would've been primered today. Even so, short of masking the rear and side windows, and giving the rear frame a power scrub, I'm all set for primer tomorrow (weather's expected to be as nice tomorrow, and I'm not due at Work 'til 3). On top of this, I got MAJOR help from one of my gf's sons, Abe (19) (it's hard getting him to help with anything, to pull him from the TV, much of the help's come from his younger bro, Luke). He wasn't even constantly looking at his watch, this time. After masking the windshield and teaching Abe the wonders of blue tape, I paint stripped the "brow" (above the windshield) cowl vent-deck and bottom rolling pan (all primered in April, grown rust 'neath it since), while he went to town with the metal etch. Later on I laid on some rust neutralizer for the few Worst Areas. Not that many, surprisingly. Didn't get any pics taken, but this one's from last month or earlier this month, just to give you an idea. Front hood's been unattached to primer seperately. Am about to return to the garage (can only use it for storage, not for the truck) to paint strip the inner fenders. Should have digi pics for you tomorrow, and more after the film gets developed (Justin Case the cheap digi's don't come out that well). So, I'm euphoric: got so much done on a rare sunny/dry Winter's day, and got Abe out of the house and workin' with minimal complaint. Paid him with an extra large pizza, later on. The pic's not the best, this is what happens when the sunlight his pinkish bondo and clear headlight dead on. Oh well. What a day. Tomorrow should be even better. Just you wait 'n see.
Hehe...cool...get that baby in proper primer! Hey time to help abe develop up his own car/project??? hehe. Cheers!
More of a chance of Luke being interested in his own project. But it's good for Abe to learn how to work and be handy. Truly. Luke's open to project ideas, having a helluva fun time in wood shop @ Arcata High.
I could stand to remember how to spell "euphoric"... I'm worse than headlines misspellers sometimes... English major education wasted. Me thinks the paint stripping fumes are gettin' past the mask filters. Chief Engineer at my TV station siade - of a paid programming we aired boasting "a calming sense of euphoria" with use of their product - "Damn, if ever get a CALMING sense of euphoria, please put a bullet in me!" Anyway...
[ QUOTE ] One of your gf's sons????? How many girlfriends do you have? [/ QUOTE ] Man, I love wordplay, heh heh. And y'know that actually took me moment to figure out (the meaning of it, not how many I have). One gf's plenty for me, she's got one son in the Navy, 2 that live with us and a daughter. Incidentally, the daughter is not one of her sons. Took me by surprise, too. Good 'un, Nads.
...well after days later of nasty weather and too much work, I got a lucky break before Work today... at least with clear weather. With everything set for primering, I hooked 'er all up and... had the air compressor not juicin' up enough. Had this problem previously, but thought it was a clogged gun (after disecting it for cleaning). After a minute of decent spray/pressure, the pressure drops, you'd have to wait for it rise. Took FOREVER. Only had time to get half the truck with etching primer before going to Work. Tomorrow we leave town for a week and a half. I'm screwed. At least I talked some friends into checking the tarp and occassional surface rust cleaning. I'm mainly worried that the etching primer - without the filler primer on top of it - will act as a magnet for moisture (more than the bare metal before). There's not much else I can do, all the options for a garage or storage are nada for now, still stuck under a tarp in the Great Outdoors. Am I worse off with etcher alone, than I was without it? I'm afraid for the answer... Anyway, my gf took a pic as I was grumbling about the whole thing, all the other shots were on film, will post it later in the week, for what it's worth. Got the driver side, bottom of the cab, doorjambs, posts, back of the cab, most of the front hood, and the usual suspects for quickest rusting areas. Seriously hoping this proves to be better than no primer at all. Thanks for listening to my rant. Anyone else run in to this before?
