It's just a splash shield to allow vapors to be drawn into the intake but not the liquid oil. The ones I've seen are screwed on inside. But even if its welded on, it should be possible to take a bite out, or bend, or Swiss cheese, or hack what you have there.
Maybe it's just me but so far, in a lifetime of buying, I've modified around 90% of everything that bolts on.
I figure it ain't brain science and I feel good when I "improve" something.

Ya know I laughed when I read the part about using an eyedropper to put oil in, but then when I read that 2 guys were actually putting oil in through the dipstick tube I began to wonder what the hell car forum am I on and how are those two guys keeping gaskets in their motors without it being vented, baby is sealed up like a vault !

    - problem is that the vents/baffles do not allow a way to put oil into motor except very slowly using alternative methods - hopefully, tomorrow I will post pics of what has to be done to retain current VC on my motor

    >>>nice looking valve chrome stamped metal valve covers that looked OK when installed - never thought about looking to see if I can put oil in motor thru the vent openings, which are so small that barely allows oil to go into motor >>>

Your apparent oversight is not, a priori, what most folks would describe as a momentous issue. I'm thus confident that you'll eventually figger out how to change your oil just fine.

I ran valve covers like that on my Nomad for 20 years and just put a good-sized funnel in the hole and poured the oil in. A little slower than usual but not bad at all.

    - I have too but, the V/C vent on these is not deep enough to put in full neck of 1qt bottle in much less allow oil to flow into motor

So I looked up those baffled grommets, and I'm baffled. What the heck does this description from the Mr. Gasket site mean?

"Designed to Virtually Eliminate Inchoil Breather Blow By Inch..."

Well, other than meaning the ad copy was written in the same place that made the grommets.

    - should be "inch oil" - due to the pressure build up without some type of baffle oil will "inch" it's way out of the motor - see that with push in breathers and the foam or other material will be soaked in oil and end up on valve cover, etc

    - which "those"?

Of course. Now it makes sense:

I tried out solid valve covers on a 355 with only the old oil fill tube intake with a breather on top of the tube and it pushed oil at the top rpm when shifting, next race I had vented covers back on.

20210305_163127.jpg finally got oil into motor today - took off driver side valve cover and did some major surgery to the existing baffle that made pouring into motor a very slow process - used Dremel tool - now have a rubber baffle by Mr Gasket ( sold by other companies too) - but, that baffle's inside diameter would not let me use a reducer to run a hose up to similar fitting on base of air filter housing - oil change but, will make next time a lot easier so, found a unique rubber piece that fit snug into rubber baffle and angled toward air cleaner - a standard push in style chrome valve cover breather would fir rubber baffle - due to use new rubber piece had to bring out a 90 degree bend hose I had laying around - all of this made for a lengthy oil change 20210305_173135.jpg 20210305_173212.jpg 20210305_170422.jpg 20210305_170451.jpg 20210305_165123.jpg - 350 in '63 Nova SS 20210305_140221.jpg 20210305_141057.jpg 20210305_141129.jpg 20210305_151019.jpg
