Hot Rods Ever build a project based on one single part?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 61cad, Oct 28, 2008.

  1. Bought an XC Falcon with a 4v GTHO spec motor in it, that now resides in my old 38 and really hauls*****.
I also started a project because of a motor, this one I REALLY wish I still had. 427 SOHC, went in a 32 3window.
    Doc.

i found a Mr. Gaskey shifter under the seat in my falcon, and a fancy 3 spoke racing steering wheel. I then got a killer deal on a 60's bucket seat ( 5 dollars ), and am building the nash round those.

Saving the seat for my gasser project though. I dunno what it is yet, but is coming soon, i can feel it. Mabey a 58 Chrysler Saratoga?

I started my coupe with a N.O.S Sun 6 cylinder tach, and an offy tri-power intake.

sold the intake and bought a McGurk triple intake, so I guess the tach is what I'm bulding my hot rod around.

The plan for my '57 150 Handyman wagon was a Black-widow themed driver with factory 2x4 intake (which it came with).
A set of fiberglass front fenders from the Charlotte Auto Fair, and it's now being built as a gasser, complete with fender well headers, fiberglass doors, leaf-link 8 3/4 rear, A-100 van seats and 12-point roll cage.
I'd have been driving it for a couple years by now if I hadn't found those fenders for $40.

  7. Built the last project based on using a set of tillotson carbs. Started building the manfold using the carbs and a slant six manifold to head gasket. Eventually a car developed. Currently I am building a Jeep altered based on a postal jeep grill a friend gave me. In fact that is all i have to work from. Everything else I will make.

I've got an old Edelbrock dual quad SBC intake, with the oil fill tube, that I eventually plan to build a car around. No clue what though. It will come to me eventually.

No, but I had to re-do a complete bathroom because my wife found a shower curtain she liked on sale.

I pretty much do this every build I do, found a la salle grille and some appleton series 91 that went on a mid 30's mopar, and next thing you know I was looking for a dodge to build westergaurd style.

I saved this from a 48 Dodge sedan I was scrapping and have been collecting odds and ends for a possible project down the road. I've got a 32 Model a frame with a straight axle, a 66 model Chevy straight six, and a late model Firebird rearend. Who knows? It may end up being something.

I'm just starting with a model A frame. Don't know what it's going to be when it grows up yet but I've got the frame knocked apart and am derusting it now. Plan to build the chasis and then find something to sit on it.

My '59 P/U started as nothing but a frame, and i gathered the parts for 8 years to become a truck, but the project that i started that i was in love with one peticular piece was my Chopper back in '72. I knew i wanted a******'in chopper even at the tender age of 15 and started gathering the parts, and the first thing i bought was a set of twisted low z bars, and a twisted hiway bar, and the rest of the bike followed on that theme. I miss that thing.:(

My F-1 project started with a cherry lower fender found at Chickasha for $5.00. It's kinda snowballed from there. Now I've found a 52 sedan dash!

Yup. All started with some retro valve covers. Now I don't even have them anymore but the car exists...

I keep convincing myself that if I dream it ... it will come...

  26. Won a Bates headlight at a poker run. When asked what I was going to do with it, I said quite flippantly "build a chopper with it".

    Couple years later, I did....

I am starting my next project with a 331 hemi (in my garage now). A couple weekends ago I found a '29 Model A to stick it in. Likely will be a '29 roadster pickup when I am done.

  28. Better hold onto that 32 Model a frame, they're getting hard to come by ;)

I picked up an orphan cowl for $10.00 at a swap meet early in the '70s and stashed it. A few years later I found out it was a '24 nash. I kept stashing it here and there over the years and eventually donated it to a buddy's build that never came together. Got it back again (and some more parts from that build) when he finally needed the garage space around the turn of the century and in '02 it started to become this ........

A shifter and a steering wheel. The steering wheels in the car now but shifters still on the shelf. I can't decide if I want to keep the column shift or if I want floor shift.
