After I sold my convertible GTA Fairlane I decided to buy a going car due to time factors. Couldn't locate one which suited my requirements so I had to build another car. Then I had too many projects on the go so I then decided buy another project, 46 Olds sedanette, after I sold my Thunderbird.
Might make this one of the last projects as very time consuming. Famous last words :p

  4. Sometimes when Im pissed off at the cars or just burned out some,I just jump on the roadglide and go for a ride..........sometimes farther than others

  5. Never even considered the thought. It's been so long now that I can't recall a time when I wasn't into cars. Just like I don't recall ever being single.......

YES! I have done it! For the last 16 years. Went back to O/T motorcycles. Now that my body can't take the bikes anymore due to old age, Im falling apart here.:( I traded one of my bikes for an old racecar. Now trying to trade the remaining bike for something a little more traditional....:)

If I ever get to the point of getting my project on the road, I think I'm going to be content.

I think we all go through seasons of grief with our toys. One of my nicest projects, a 64 chevy truck, drove me crazy a few years back even though everything was new. It broke down on me three times in two weeks. I was so ticked. But you know its like going out to eat and stuffing your face with your favorite meal. You leave thinking I want eat that again for a long time and before you know it you're craving it again.

I don't think I will ever get over my passion for cars. The fact is it takes our ability to keep them running and looking good. The vision we have for them is what keeps us going back to the garage. Its the best theropy for me and my only real escape from the demands of life. Hang in there because when she's puring like a kitten you will be proud of your accomplishment. If you give up you it will just be a matter of time until you're under the hood of another basket case needing your attention.

  19. I am in the process of evolving out of hot rodding (active participation) now. Downsizing/Time management/age issues. Will keep and drive my TR4, which means, I will be getting dirty an a frequent basis.

That's why I have two hobbies. When it is all going to crap in the garage I play lots of golf. When my golf game is in the toilet I hit it hard in the garage.

I've been out of the car scene for the past several years, mostly due to money and time issues (that's also why most of my stuff is for sale right now). I still love cars and attend a few shows (like the Round Up) though.
I do get to 'live it' vicariously through you guys here on the HAMB, which I still check at least daily. I figure one day I'll get back into it again!

yes im want to quit everyday.im in pain 24hrs aday. if i quit and i dont go out in the shop i will die, so i keep going back. and i keep buying old bodies and i keep on dreaming while i keep on turnin wrenches. i love old cars. they have given me enternal youth.when i drive one down the road im in my early 20s, there is no pain, just me and the sound of a hot v8.

  24. I stopped for 10 years. Was raising a family on no money, and couldn't do it. Sold off my cars and stuff in favor of a familymobile. Then I got an old truck for free, started wrenching on it, and it was like oh yeah, this is what's missing in my life. Never looked back.

I used to build custom bikes and ate, slept and breathed bikes. Then my back blew out and I sold the bikes because I couldnt ride them anymore. Had to get away and regroup, then I bought the truck so I could still be involved in something that I could drive. I had several rods 15 years ago before we moved to Southern Illinois that I sold because I couldnt afford to move them all. Seems to be a see/saw kind of experience. If you sell out and get away from it, you will only fill that space with something else.

  26. I slowed down for a while after I moved and didn't have a shop set up. I'm settled in the house and still haven't set up the shop so I'm low on motivation. Once the warm weather gets here I am sure I will be back at it.

62 and had this affliction since I was 16. wife gets a new car when she wants one and takes it to the dealer for repairs, I drive junk and wouldn't have it any other way. If It breaks I fix it(i did build it after all) and it suits just me.(no radio and to loud)
100's of great cars and many many thousands of dollars in experience to show for it.
Great for PTSD, I can beat the shit out of a car with a hammer if I want too

I have a different issue. The DMV has put such a bad taste in my mouth, I think I'm going to sell my roadster as soon as I do get the title. It won't keep me from the hobby, but it will also help me finance the Coupe I started though.

In 2006 I can remember working 750 miles from home, my gf of 5years stole 2K and broke up with me. I didnt want to look at anything plus I didn't have anything there put it all in storeage. 6 months later I had a long wk end on a labor day went to greaserama show in KC and I was ready to get started.
Fast forward today. I'm trying to get joint custody of my son. Lawyer bills and the mental drain of dealing with the ex's games and accusations. I have no where to work on stuff right now. I had that feeling of selling everything the other day when I woke up. Then I got some caffiene. Things will get better.
What I love about lonestar is its the first show of the season(to me) I dont call winter indoor shows events. Lonestar is the EVENT. long drive for us, the people you meet hanging out on congress, cruising, your buddy sneaking a pic of sandra bullock at austin speed shop.

When I get frustrated with my lack of progress with my coupe, I retire to my basement malt shop and kick back with a malted and pretend it is 1958.
