Ever had one that might be too rusty?

Thanks for all the replies guys - I kinda needed to see/hear it.

Abone - that thing is incredible, do you have more pics?

53olds - what is the plan for replacing all the rotten metal? Where are you going to attach to?

Chadman117 - it really is just a driver, I'm leaning much more to the philosophy of 'get it safe and road worth and drive it till the wheels fall off'. I would rather build a car to my liking and for my enjoyment without giving a damn to the resell of it. I don't have a ton of money into the car and since I don't really plan on it being a nice show car, just an old as Methuselah weekend driver. I've still got my '72 M-M hearse that I actually plan to make nice again - me thinks that this will be my test bed to learn how to do body work, welding, upholstery (the skills I don't currently possess). I've lost so much money on cars that went to people that would treat them right and keep them on the road, it doesn't even bother me anymore (and it's not that I have ANY money, it's just I like to see cars on the road).

49Rat - They are lapped - I cut out the rotten spot on that side with the cut off wheel, layed the bad piece over the replacement pan and traced it with a marker, went back and cut it out with the plasma - never taking into consideration the metal that was missing from the cut off wheel!! So when I put the new piece in I discovered a hellacious gap all the way around it, so I ended up doing strips and lap welds instead of butt welding. I do figure that by the time I get done with the other 3 panels I'll probably be much better at this and redo that panel anyways.

Squablow - I'd happily take you up on that, anything you've got that would help I'd love to get from ya. Just let me know what you've got and how much you want for it.

Dave K - That is what I'm all about!

Thanks for all the advice guys!

Excellent point for us new guys, and one I have used several time already. My first car will probably be built at least twice, if not three times before I can say it is finished.

I have a sickness called the "I-can-fix-that!" syndrome. It has led me to purchase several rust buckets in the past, none of which got finished.

It's not that I can't do rust work, I can, but it's time-consuming and can be very, very frustrating.

    It's also completely avoidable.

So my cut-off point is when I'm not yet invested in the car.

No matter how clearly I can see the finished car in my mind, if it's more than a little bit rusty I pass.

There will always be another one...without all the rust.

    Just my $.02 :)

There is a thread on here that is a build thread from a gent (I believe from the UK) and his boys that are rehabbing a SUPER rusted out 50 chevy (i think) If anyone knows what the hell I'm talking about, post it up....you'll then realize that you dont have a rust issue!
