Ever have a car take your breath away?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by newpy383, Jan 26, 2011.

  1. John Fisher's 36, the 55 bel air that SASS showed at LB Motorama, Mark Skipper's T (which was neat just to sit in) and the Take out T (even though technically i haven't seen it in person), and Adrian's (formerly Jordan's) 29 because its the only true traditional roadster i've ever driven, also the two 60's that starlite just finished (one starliner and one olds).

I had goosebumps when I saw it from the street in front of a country dive bar in a not-so-nice section of town...

The first pass I made into the 6's at Atlanta Dragway. At about 1000 feet, it started sashayin' left to right 'cause I was trying to put about 1500 horsepower to a greasy, no-prepped racetrack.
Lifting, it still went 6.89 @ 190. Now THAT really took my breath away.
Needless to say, we put 'er in the box and headed to the house after that!

That first ride in the dual quad 426 Hemi 4 speed did it to me when I was 16. The ride in the 69 Nova did it a couple years later. When I hammered down on my freshly built Road Runner and it did a 360 before I even knew what was happening, took my breath away.

There has been a few that got me from just looking at them, usually unexpectedly something about them caught my eye. Then sometimes there are just those cars that are just right.

There are a lot of things in life that take my breath away, sometimes good, and sometimes not good. If you not able to have something take your breath away sometimes, you really need to open your eyes and look around a little more. Gene

First time I slapped the loud pedal on my Fuel Altered. All the answers to life, the universe and everything in one terrifying lunge. If I could live one moment over and over for the rest of my life, that would be it right there.

  22. my friend built this and it never was finished. He died and the car came apart piece by piece and the remnants of it are at a friends house. :( Its one car that had everything right for me every time I set eyes on it.

    Kirk Hammett's Cole Foster-built '36 Ford. Now that's a work of art.

  24. same here... albeit not on fuel. my ribs hurt for a week after that first launch from my body cringing in response to the G-forces. i dont think i took a breath until i was off the track.

yep. Fuel and Gas Finals, year before their last year with VRA. car did something really weird off the line (car was like a cadillac, straight and true). this time the car made a hard left, then a hard right then settled in. it was a thrill ride for sure. my buddy at the top end said he saw the top of my helmet and the bottom of my oil pan in the same pass....
that pass stayed with me fora long time.

The first car that made my eyes really pop was Evel's. Man I can't get enough of looking at it.
