What a beauty! Thanks very much , I have wanted to see one of these for over 40 years!! Never could find anything remotely connected with one before.
Now --- does any one have any idea what and why some genius at GM decided that the US and Canada did not deserve a convertible in 39. Like Al Sharpton says---- "I wanna KNOW"

  2. Now that sounds a little derogatory. :D Yea I sas dis broad on Mill Street under da bridge, she was an Austrailian sloper. :D:D:D

neat looking Chevy, I suppose that the low manufacture number means that i will not be owning one in the near future but neat car. like the look.

I just noticed --- next to the 39 Holden is a 34 ? 35? roadster or cabriolet ? I bought one of those way backwhen I was 18 in about 59 or 60 from a junk yard in Grantsville Utah. Art Mc'Bride's place later owned by his son Dennis , the sad fate of that yard and all it's survivors has been well covered on the Hamb .
The one I bought was complete and in excellent condition except for the WShield and frame missing and I was to give the engine and tranny back. Cost me 25.00 dollars!! It was pretty well buried in the middle of the yard and needed a wrecker to get it out. At the time I drove a wrecker for the Ford dealer in Murray Ut. , when I got out there two weeks later Mr. Mc'Bride was hopping mad! He had been out of town the weekend before and several semi flatbeds and a wrecker had come in ( from California according to neighbors) and loaded up and took off with about a dozen cars , mine included!! 50 some years later I am still bummed about that!

The GM slopers look completely different than the American Counterpart, but this Ford looks like an American Ford with a weird chop. Cool..

    Ford

Ford Australia followed GM Holden's with a Sloper design. It was not until 1939 thestyle became available on the Ford Standard and DeLuxe V8 chassis.
Priced at £335 for the standard and £350 for the Deluxe. The sloper style replaced the imported Club Coupe. Ford Australia lablled the cars Tudors.
1940 was the last year for the Ford Tudor. Production figures are not available.

There was a U.S. built 'sloper' launched in January 1934 which pre-dated the Aussie slopers. Plagiarism????

Those are all unusual and great looking rare old cars. Thanks. I learned something new today too. Forgot three or four things. I think!

  14. Here is a '39 Chevy that has been hot rodded. This was taken at the Australian Street Rod Nationals in 1977.

This is an '37 Olds Sloper taken at the same event.

I have seen a '37, '38, and one '39 Chevy in the U.S. They are not slopers like the down under GM's, but they are very rare.

Lasalle made a 2 door in 37,ive never seen one myself, but would be neat to put the caddy front end on it.It was a cheaper version of the cheaper car then. The caddy was 1800 then, the lasalle was 14-1500, I don't know how they did it,must have cut some serious corners, the caddy 60 series was basically a fancy 50 series lasalle.Harvey

Now you're giving me ideas. Let's try a 3" section job, lower it and un-rake it:
