I agree. I dislike the pro-street look, really like the gasser look. I'm starting to think that bone stock on the outside with some period speed equipment on the four banger on the inside. What can you get those up to, about 80hp?
I think they are too.I saw this at World of Wheels in Milwaukee and I think someone said it was their body.It looked pretty cool.
Seen this car first hand and it's wild! The first Willys i've seen as a custom, and it's every bit custom.. No pics either on here.. I have one somewhere on film, but no scanner.. Tony
Ya, that one is beautiful. One of my favorite cars of all time. Id love to see some pics of it if anyone has some?
The black Willys coupe belongs to Lynn Park aka Mr. Cobra. It packs a '57 392 hemi with 2-4s - normally aspirated, painted black with painted black valve covers. It is a really nice car - you never see them with widened stock wheels. Any of you guys heard of the FDR 1940 Willys convertibles - legend has it that five were built, the first at the request of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and there is reputedly one of them fitted with hand controls along with a 1938 Ford also equipped with hand controls in the FDR Little White House on the I-85 just south of Warm Springs, GA. Any truth in this - anyone been to the FDR Little White House?
which of the TN/NC old timers remembers a grey primer Willys coupe that was at one of the famous Gatlinburg rod runs from the 70's? It was chopped,no hood, and had a SOHC Ford in it...and it said $2000 on the windshield..I've got pics somewhere, but dunno where they are..yeah,I know,I suck.. Who remembers it,or knows anything about it? I remember it looking pretty damn evil
That car rules and about put me on the floor the 1st time i saw it esp being a all steel car. I've got several pics of that car but no scanner..It is one of the best examples of a 'taildragger' in my opinion... I know of a untouched bone stock original one that is only a few blocks from me and the old guy has no intentions of ever letting it go...It i tucked away in his garage and i only fear the future of that car.....
heres some shitty scans of one here in australia from about 10 years ago. (feature done in newsledder mag nov/dec'98 issue for those viewers playing at home) we had convertibles here in oz. was really cool, original flathead4 running gear but slammed on its guts. 59chev headlights, vet grill and painted suede purple with a brush. looks different now
I will see if I can get a message to him and see if he can post some or email them to me and I will post them. Hell maybe i will run up to his place and see if I can't get any pics of it.
I really dig the idea of a taildragger custom Willys....but man they gotta be hard to find....I've only seen about 6 real steel ones in my life, they're as rare as real Cobras....I couldn't do one outta fiberglass.....I'd feel dirty........
And here is a Sports Custom that has been shown in a different post before... The car is still around... in sad shape though
My old Willys... before someone bought it and destroyed it with green flames There is a glass willys in sweden built on a volvo frame that ha gotten a really nice kustom treatment. It was featured in Gasoline Magazine in Sweden. Does anyone have any pics of this?
Damn, what a cool post!! Really great to see something other than gassers, not that they are a bad thing!!! Thanks kids!!-Sololobo
