    . . .

well, im havin one of those moments. :(

started off this morning with the first cup of coffee, when i picked up the cup the handle came off in my hand and burned my foot with hot coffee. . .

went out to the garage to get busy cleaning the rear axle for the willys, and the axle fell off one of the jack stands i had it sitting on. . .

then i grabbed a dead blow br*** headed mallet to free up one of the stuck rotors and the br*** face busted off and hit me in the shin...

i'm tellin ya, im gonna be afraid to take a piss the rest of the day for fear of loosing THAT as well.

the thought of selling everything i own, and moving to tibet has seriously crossed my mind several times today. maybe i need to take a break and not touch anything out there for a few months and see if things look different

anyhow, thanks for listening to me whine like a ***** with a skinned knee

You wouldn't like Tibet. You might get your foot stepped on by a yak.

  4. I am already there. Now i enjoy other peoples cars for the time being. I sold the car that I have wanted for 11 years just last year. Im giving myself a break for a while. Maybe you just need a break for a while?

I hear ya'. I've been cryin' for the past couple days because my '64 Olds was so close to being 100% roadworthy and now the exhaust manifold gaskets are blown out and it's loud and annoying. Plus I've got more projects than I could finish in 5 years.

I've been thinking about selling my house, setting up a little apartment in my shop, and getting rid of a few cars, so I could live debt free and just play with old cars all day. We'll see how that goes.

  8. I did sell off nearly everything a few years back. Still not sure if it was a good thing or not. When I came back to the hobby I did feel better and enjoyed it more. But I lost a project or two that I wish I still had.
Take a break. Go fishing, mountain bikeing, whatever, pick up a different hobby for a while. Don't let this become your life.

I Drag Race, Blown up more stuff that the law should allow, lost events by miliseconds, have had misfortune towing to Races, been ripped off, ****ed over, etc. You get the picture. Stand back look at it, and then step up your game!! Quiting is for quiters."

From the voice of experience. When you get to that point, cover everything and get away from it for a while. Just do not sell anything. In time, start back again. It may be months or more. But if you never sell, its still yours.

  13. about every ten years and actually do sell out to take a break to spend some time on my other interests, I am getting close to that now with the 46 nearly done, its a keeper for awhile I think, the car trailer is up for sale and the project cars are nearly all sold off, yet this time around- NO tools are going-,still lots of parts around here tho

  14. Yup...

The day was not meant for working in the garage, do something else.

Once you do something else and everything works as planned, the jinx is off and you can go back to the garage.

Baloney!!! So you're having a bad luck streak in dancing school, big deal. Sometimes life is a kick in the stones.

Take a breather. Walk away from the projects for a few weeks and see how you feel. Sometimes just changing direction for a while helpsyou get back on course.

Go fishing, take up knitting, enroll in a cl*** at the local community college in a subject you've always been curious about; make a small change and see what it'll bring you.

Some days you have to know when to go in the garage and some days you have to know when to go back in the house. Now, you say you got a willys??? Quit *****in' and give yourself the day off.

I've gone through the same thing myself, just said '**** it, I'm done messing around with this ****' and it's never failed yet - I always come back to it.

Just take a break, relax or enjoy another hobby for a while. If you still want to get rid of everything in 90 days go for it.

    Good luck.

I take so long to do anything for myself......
If the day is that poor, unplug all the toys and shut all the valves off. Close the door, and put a padlock on it. Do not sell, it will be a great joy to open the door 'tomorrow', when things are better.
I thought it would be much easier (always greener on the other side of the fence) to not have the tools or the 'knowledge'; maybe take up book collecting......or travel........naw, I love the shop!:D

You can't give up until you lose blood or get disembowled in a real accident.

  22. Yup exactly, but then I had about an eight day break from work and almost got the car done.

I finished up the brakes, wiring, got the good motor and trans in, fuel lines and rolled the motor over today.

Up until eight days ago I had'nt touched the car in almost a year. It feels good to almost have it done though.

I think taking the break really helped.:)

Fiddy, that's why this is a hobby. Walk away and come back to it with a clear head. Working angry is a bad idea, no good can come of it for you or the car. Clear your head first. Go do something else you like; read a book, have ***, play a round of golf...whatever, and get the car off your mind. Then when the urge strikes, get back to it and you'll amaze yourself as to your inspiration and productivity. Yes, I am speaking from experience.

  24. Well heres my ***** for the day, selling up and forgetting it??
In the process of it now.
If quitting is a bad thing I’m one bad*** motha fukka.
Got ****ed up in the Army in a parachute accident, got the boot.
Finished doctorate in Paramedical science, not using it (Still ****ed up physically)
Building a car?? I was, still to ****ed up to be able to work on it. So it’s for sale.
VA ****ed me on my pension and compensation so it’s all going out the door.
Guess you can say I quit on everything I tried to date.
    ****it, quittins my new motto.

    Doc.

thats nothing, wait until you have 7 projects to work on, you say **** it, go to mow the lawn, it starts raining, you go in the garage to work on brakes, they are shot...bad....noone has parts...but oyu know if you didnt pull the wheels, they would have been fine to go to the cruise night that night, but now its in your head..so you cant....

you dont wanna fiddle with the carb/ timing on your van, so you go to work on the bike...by this time it stopped raining, you get welder into the driveway, get bike frame all setup on the lift, start welding, because you ****, you burn a few holes before getting **** to work......it starts pouring again, in a mad rush to not get electrocuted, you bring everything in, in the meantime, the bike, whose frame you have mocked up, with front end, new fork tubes, and rear wheel, falls off the jack....you procede to pick it up, throw it through the gas grill, now your fender that you just spent an hour on welding brackets for is all dented up, so as its raining, you run for the toolbox get a seldge and beat the living **** out of it and anything in site....

then, once you calm down, you figure. hey i go tthe new rear mainseal for the motor, should be an easy swap..then you figure out you have to pull the motor to get at it!!!!!!!

well the ****** ended up out, and the motor is still in..........

.......that night last week i realized i have too many projects, i put everything up for sale except the car. and going to concetrate on the car that is currently out of commision, because you KNOW as soon as i pulled the trans, now i wanna do a trans swap and even contemplated a motor swap......and once i thought of that, now i wanna chop it, change the grill wheels, etc. and paint everything and do it nice and "finish" it.....it will NEVER be done.

    its a disease.

BUT, right now im taking a break from relaxing. family is over for a BBQ, my sister and my girlfriend brought over friends in bikinis that are sunbathing in my yard (for which my gr*** is doing VERY well this year) dad is making beer can chicken, and i bought a sirius satillite boombox and im listening to good music.

  27. Yeah, usually once a week. Usually on race day... Look at it this way: if you can take some rusty pile of **** and turn it into something, ANYTHING, you've performed magic and done the world a bit of good.

BTW, on a bad day, small tinwork is great for cleansing the soul. If you go into it KNOWING that you'll screw it up on the last bend or cut, you'll feel so much better when you pull it off. I always save little panels and stuff up for when I'm too pissed to work on anything else.

Like somebody already said, you've got a Willys to play with. I'm jealous...

Hang in there buddy. Like everyone says, go do something else. Go take a drive. Sit and think of the veterans today. Have a beer, read a book. It'll look different tomorrow.
