reminds me of a trip to N.Arkansas, Buffalo River area..the old farms around there had fences made of their old cars and trucks, driven to death and parked end to end on the property line..accented with vines and goats standing on top of the cars..wish my area allowed that kind of stuff...

Seeing those pictures reminds me of some advice a guy that had a junk yard in North Carolina told me,..... first he said the taller the trees are the older the cars are,..... so we head out, suddenly he runs out the back yard and yells at us "Hey you boys from Michigan ?", we said yeah !,..... then he said "Well if a car starts hissing or rattling at you,... It ain't suppose to to !"

Ironically, I found out where a couple more of the cars in Oklahoma went a few minutes ago driving around. :D

Those pics are in no way sad if you're from the rust belt. It means they're still out there. What's the labor time diff in weldin in new for rust or banging out the old?

people who think that is sad need to realize that they were junk cars when they put them in the river... they would have been crushed long ago and if they made new cars out of them those cars would most likely be crushed by now as well.

anybody know where anything like that is within driving distance of the San Francisco/Oakland area?? I could spend all day there and take 1000 pictures. looks ike fun

These caches of cars are to be found all across the country. It was part of state and federal erosion control programs going far back into the 40s and up through the 60s.
The cars were stripped of their running gear, interiors etc. and then hauled in and arranged along river banks, creek banks, bayou banks and other areas in the style of the day as noted by the pictures shown, some side by side, some nose to tail, in single, double, and triple rows strung together with cable anchored at each end and usually covered over with gravel and earth.
Friends of ours from OK found and recovered many old Ford and other make bodies from these river and creek banks. Oddly, sometimes the portion of the vehicles under the earth were actually in better shape than the exposed portion, but it was usually the opposite. They did, however, recover some good solid bodies and many many usable quarter panels, cowls, etc. even some real cl***ic car stuff like Pierces, Cords etc.

    Hey Caddy-o,

Where are these located? It might be a fun way to arrange a day cruise around visits to some of these sites. If you don't want to publicly announce the locale, I understand, but ask if you'd PM me the details.

    Thanks!

This looks like a place near my in-laws at Hardesty. There's quite a bit of old tin in that area.
