Take every tool you will need ,add a handfull more plus all the supplies you can think of with you when you do a controled fall to the floor . That way,........maybe you won`t have to get up more than one time. Works for me,sometimes.

  2. my mower needed a starter that I had to wait for and my acre of gr*** got away from me. I still have to mow the front but I did get the rear mowed and windrowed.

Today its deal with the back until I can convince myself that it isn't so bad that I can't go ride the mower for an hour or so and get back after that Caddy grill. But I'll whup it and maybe even find time to p*** a hone through my cylinders. I am driven, but what I have no idea but I am.

Funny, my wife thinks I'm nuts because my riding mower is a 1973 and I prefer not to get a new one. I just love the way it backfires every time I shut it down.

  4. Mine is 5 years old and everything in the foreign made starter was fine except the dropped field that was glued in. Its not like you can get a new field for one any more.

Oh well some much for my problems anyone got any cheese to go with my whine?

Tried to explain to the (ex) wife once that, after a ****ty,stressful day at work,I could feel my body relaxing, and the blood pressure going down, just by turning on the garage lights, the stereo, and looking at my project.
8 hours on my back on a cold concrete floor,**** falling in my eyes, burning the piss outa myself, and it always felt good.
Now I'm almost 60,but it still feels good..most of the time..my back will stop hurting right after I finish something,I think........

The way I see it, is Im kinda poor, therefore Im kinda cheap, But I want a nice car ( done my way ), I cant afford one, I couldnt find one already done, therefore If Im to ever have one, I must make it myself and in my budget.

P.S. when I say "Kinda cheap", I really mean I am very cheap.

Would rather torture myself doing it than be tortured by people saying you payed to have your car built.

Reading back through this and thought this was funny. Just spent a couple nights changing out the mower deck with a $5 deck from a mower boneyard. By the time I bought $15 in tune up parts and a $10 tank from the same boneyard, I had $30 in my 10 year old push mower. I still don't know why I screwed with all that when I could have bought a brand new one for little over $100. I'm so stupid.:D It mows good now though.

i have a list of projects three pages long... trucks, cars, motorcycles, art, shop, home improvement, bicycles, tools, music, hell, even clothing... and to top it off, i design and build custom furniture for a living... my entire life is unfinished projects... i bleed and bang my head against the wall every day and i wouldn't want it any other way... i want **** the way i like it and nobody cares about it as much as i do... i've often felt ripped off with work i've paid to have done, and usually had to fix it myself anyway... i love to get dirty and i love the smell of burning metal... i'm never gonna be the guy who wants what everybody else has...

Self inflicted pain is so much easier to tolerate, because you are halfway ready for it at any time when working on a project. He says while bandaging half torn off finger. Sweet

If I had gotten to drive my car yesterday as planned instead of frying the ECM and it now being dead I am not sure I would answer this question the same way today.....

Isn't it because thats what we do? Years/months tucked away in a garage, so broke your living on beans so you can buy that next part to finish a job off. Been doing it for 20 years plus and still can't see what the issue is though many would disagree and say what i do i a waste of time and money messing with these "old" cars. Maybe we do it so one day, like a day i had recently, we see a project through, go on a decent road trip with the other tortured souls we call friends and spend the whole time just grinning like a fools, cruising our cars. I wouldn't want to do anything else and never will do.

And people wonder why there are abandoned projects all over peoples yards/properties/barns.

Sometimes you have to just step away from a project for awhile. Sometimes people never step back to the project.

With the build car addiction and keeping our computers going, it is not torture, it's what we love.

I think it's all about the PRIDE. Anybody can go out and buy a "COOKIE CUTTER CAR" but how many can do what we do? Yea it's a disease and I don't want the cure.....

That would just mean dumping the tool box on the ground next to the car!!!
After selling my last one and dragging one around for 4 years waiting to get time and money to fix it, and then getting one for my girl and having it running and on the road in less than a month............ driving it makes me so happy I dont want to get out of the car to beat the jerk off on his cell phone that just cut me off, I just want to keep driving.............. thats what its all about, when your hard work finally pays off!!!:D

There have been times when I've thought to myself " John, maybe you should take up a simple hobby, something that doesn't involve a gas guzzling hot gas belching V8, smashed fingers and burned flesh. Maybe something like hiking, or Kayaking....maybe bird watching, or even gardening ". Then I think "NOT".
