I got an offer to buy 1 gal. each of Rage Gold-Tiger Hair,$100 for both, guy bought it last Feb. never used it. anybody know the shelf life of this
There is a 6 digit date code stamped on the bottom of the can. The first number is the year of manufacturer and the next two are the month. So if the number was 511098 it would mean it was made in November of 2015. Generally 18 months is about the max shelf life for these products. They may be good for longer but anything past that is a bit of a gamble. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Curious, is $100 a good price for the 2 gallons? How much is it over the counter? I use Evercoat Z grip at around 25 a gallon with good results, never had the need for Tiger Hair, actually don't want to offend anyone but IMHO if you need something like Tiger Hair your cutting corners.
MAR GLASS Marson product Heavy fiberglass filler best first coater resists moisture then skim with Favorite filler Mar Glass $58 a gallon Most inexpensive fillers are $23 gallon premium fillers like rage. golden extra $45 gallon in the Northeast from my supplier. I dont buy online or from just anyone. IT CAN FREEZE Some of the lighter fillers tend to be somewhat dry spreading there is more talc in those fillers others are a little soupy and the resin surfaces to the top and will sand gummy filling up the paper. This is really an open opinion to how its mixed, what it mixed on what the temp is, how many beers you had what language you speak on and on and on. Oh I have bought 1 gal Bondo back in the day for less than $3 so this is not my first rodeo BARON VON VASNIC
My favorite of the last 8 years or so is Rage Extreme. Not sure what it costs, that's just what I prefer at work. They pushed a new 3M product on us recently called Platinum Plus. I told them I would try it but it will be the last can for me. I have had more problems with pinholes since I started using it than I've had in many years. Rage Extreme was always the most pinhole free filler for me and it is also easier to spread. It doesn't pull if you go back over it.
The filler itself lasts a long time, but the hardener goes bad.... It's a good deal, for the guy selling it.
zombiecat, we also got some platinum plus pushed on us by our supplier. They told our owner "everyone is using it". Most miserable crap I think I have ever used. It dried out "notice, not set up, dried out" while spreading it, and we were told by a 3M rep later that it was actually more of a glaze than a filler. Other folks results may vary. Backto the original topic, that price is just under what wewould pay for those products. By about 3 bucks.
