I had a scary awakening this week. I walked out in the garages and realized that everything I owned actually ran...and pretty good. I've never had that happen before so I did what any self respecting person who chronically tortures themselves would do. I promptly sold one of them to my neighbor for way to cheap and then rushed out and bought a complete piece of shit that doesn't run. I'm feeling a little better now.

Anyway, the new car isn't really HAMB friendly...but it is. I've noticed that everyone on here seems to hate the same two things...small block chevy's and volkswagens. VW's are so hated that they aren't even allowed on the board usually. So I'm pretty darned excited to have both of those two things in one car. It should manage to irritate at least one "real hot rodder".

My car really is pre-1964...it really is a vintage race car...and it really is a volkswagen. It's a 1962 Bug that was called the "Lightning Bug" and raced out west with a front engine 327 and Muncie 4-speed until it got stuffed in a barn in 1975 and never saw the light of day again. I had to have it. I've never owned a V8 with a 94 inch wheelbase and wheelie bars that you drove from the back seat before.

I've got all four Mickey Thompson Raders and the matching original M/T Redline tires in good condition. The car also still has it's removable red metalflake steering wheel, Stewart Warner 10k tach and 160MPH speedo and a host of other cool stuff inside. The buckets are 1965 mustang seats and the chassis is a 1940 Ford with juice brakes and a chevy rearend.

    Yeah, it's ugly.
    I love it.

I may catch hell for this, but.......

    COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  3. I like it. It sums up what, in my opinion, hot rodding means: Put a bigger engine in a lighter, cheap car. Looks sweet. Get it running and do some runs!

    sweet :D

screw em if somebody has a problem with your car

Afterall, who says it isn't a hotrod. A lot of fabrication, use of a wide variety of parts....and pretty damn cool. I could imagine driving it down to the local cruise night

And all jacked up like that it looks like Herbie doing a wheelie. I like it. I would have rather seen it with a built and turbo'd vw motor, but I like it none the less!

I'm disappointed... When I clicked on this thread, I thot it was going to be about money and sex...and you cannot deny THAT is everyone's two favorite things...I cannot think of anything other than those two...including...or excluding SBC's and Volkwagens...

Man, you guys are weird...!!!

Anyway, NICE PROJECT! get it running, keep it old-style!

I dunno Scoob, in some kinda twisted crazy way its so ugly it's cool. I don't know if I'd a bought it, but it's the kinda thing that when I'd see it somewhere I'd walk away thinking "thats pretty damn cool" Looks like fun at the very least. Gary

Still new to the hamb, but I am starting to learn that it's not quite about the car, or even the engine. Sounds like it's more about preserving the passion to create what you don't have, driving the piss out of it, and drinking with your buddies while you talk about what's next to change on it.

I have driven a smallblock vw, and I can tell you, you are in for one wild ride! Get that thing running and post us some pictures!
