  1. I still prefer a 2 door personally, but I don't scoff at 4-doors like I did years ago. I'm just happy someone has an old car on the road, no matter the amount of doors.

I had what I thought was very nice '79 Ranchero Squire (with Tru-Spokes even), that I was particularly proud of. One day, my daughter asked for a ride to school, but not in the "Station Wagon Truck".

I'm one of those "4 door snobs". The only 4 door I ever built turned into a 3 door.

It was 1961 and my mother was 33 when she got her driver's license. We had moved from town, where almost everything was within walking distance or a short cab ride away, to a small farm 17 miles outside of Oklahoma City. My dad bought a '52 Chevrolet station wagon, dark green with the tin side wood trim, for her use.
It was exactly like this. [IMG]
She was so proud of it. We went everywhere in that car, church, grocery shopping, school functions, vacations, the local feed mill for chicken feed, everywhere. If my dad and I were working in the field, Mom would bring lunch out to us and we would eat sitting on the tailgate The following year, I was about to graduate, and the school was hosting a dinner at a fancy restaurant in OKC for all 20 of the seniors. I had a date and Mom let me use the station wagon. I was all full of myself, knowing I was the king of the road. Not five minutes after I crossed the OKC city limits, I pulled into an intersection and T-boned another car. No one was hurt, but all the sheet metal was gone off of the Chevy. The wagon got rebuilt and my dad sold it shortly after. Mom got a new '62 four door Chevy wagon, and if I wanted to go somewhere, I got to drive the two door, a '41 Chevy pickup. I believe I'd enjoy having any of those three today.

That turned out great and makes my original point; this works so well because the short front doors are a perfect fit for the overall design of the vehicle. The exact opposite of what usually happens.

When I brought it home my oldest son said it looked like a London taxi, and couldn't see it being a hotrod.

Still with the more door hate? I've worn pink high-top Chuck Taylors, driven 4 doors with chrome wheels & flames, and am a secure male. What happened to all you guys that you are so insecure? Give it a rest.

  12. I don't hate 4-doors.
    I just don't like 'em.

While everything seems to come back around, some things should never happen in the first place. Personally some 4 doors are acceptable, just not my favorites. Some chicks on scooters are just fine, key word FINE! Some look like some hogs come with spares. And I don't care if they spit or swallow, women that chew tobacco fall into the catagory of never should happen. At least these are my opinions.

To be clear, my original intention was not to knock four doors, but to show that many contemporary car manufacturers (with multi-million dollar styling budgets) are producing vehicles as out of proportion now as I did in 1959 for the same reason.

  16. Idea on this one wasn't to try to disguise it as a two door. Idea was to clean up an overly busy look lol. Not to mention it meant sourcing fewer replacement chrome parts. FB_IMG_1733192986527.jpg

    Thanks for the kind words.
Yeah, this was one of the rare cases where removing/welding-up the rear doors actually help the design.
Years ago I found this pic of a '31 Slantwindow Fordor on the web...
    0.33.jpg

...I put my finger over the C pillar and thought; that would make a great looking sedan delivery. I just had to try it.

  18. By that same rationale a 49 to 51 Ford coupe was essentially a Electrolux vacuum salesman's car.

  19. I have to say this argument has been done over and over and over in the 20ish years I have been lurking around on the hamb.
Obviously most cars a two-door looks better there are some makes and models that a four-door can look pretty good pretty much all the hardtop four doors GM made in 1957 look killer but if they are a post car they look busy, the 1961-64 Cadillacs the four window sedans look great but the six window sedans look almost like a limousine, the coupes by comparison The trunk lid It's almost as long as the hood It looks disproportionate in my opinion not having that Coke bottle shape.
When it comes to the Exner designed mopars two-door hardtops reign supreme, when it comes to 49 to 51 Fords the two door sedan and the four-door sedan look identical other than those ugly door handles, shave them and you almost can't tell the difference, obviously the coupe has a different roof line but the sedans same same but different.
If we get more into the hot rod era I got to say I kind of like some of the four doors and they are traditional hot rods there are numerous examples in vintage Rod and custom magazines from the late '50s and early '60s, The key is giving them the right stance, getting the right wheel and tire combo and a good looking paint job here is a 1932 more door photo that was taken from Hot Rod magazine, It is on the internet unfortunately The ultra ***y three window is hiding it but look at that stance on that Mordor, I would never kick that car out of my garage. 1932-ford-deuce-1961-feature.jpg
