Finally got my 34 on the road. The exhaust comes all the way back and under the center section of the independent rear then up and out the back. Looks like the exhaust is going to blow straight on to the rear spreader bar/back bumper.
I was thinking of adding the flat and wide tips/deflectors.
Any experience with them? How they look? If they do much deflecting?
Do they change the sound much?
I mainly want not to soot the spreader bar without adding turn downs.
    Already getting busy down there.

the plate is moved up between the tail lights and the exhaust comes out about where the tag is.

My buddy has a set on the back of a 56 Nomad. I don’t see that they do much. But the back of any wagon is kind of a suction chamber, so might be different for you.
    Nice ride.

Wont do anything to prevent soot on your spreader, there is too much turbulent air under there at speed. May work when you are stationary.

  8. I have them on my RPU and have never had exhaust residue on my nudge bar or tail gate.
Question, why are the tail pipes aiming at the spreader bar? JW

When it is all together with the spreader bar in place wouldn't it be simpler to have the muffler shop bend some tips that directed the exhaust Down past the spreader bar? It looks like you have a few things to take care of back there including the spreader bar and then figure out the last few inches of the exhaust.

If you want the look of it but don't want the soot, cut your pipe to have a hole in underneath and a 45° blocking plate at the rear of the hole. Paint the inside of the pipe matt black. Hidden turn-down.
Any tip you put on will never get dirty...

I hate to bring this up, but maybe buy or borrow a wideband oxygen sensor.

If you are pushing that much soot, you are running too rich.

Funny you should say, just pulled the plugs, very rich.
    Working on fuel delivery now.
I haven’t been having a noticeable soot issue, only run 175 miles so far.
I just didn’t want the spreader to get hot and nasty.
I’m going to make the spreader and run it for a while and see what happens.

Two of my cars have the exhaust turned down and one has the exhaust that exits straight out the back. Both of them with it turned down exhaust tips make a drone noise that is constant when on the highway and they kick up a lot of dust anytime I'm backing up. So eventually, I plan to change the two that turn down to exit straight out the back.

For the overall sound, the two that are turned down actually have quieter mufflers but both sound louder because the sounds echoes off of the ground.

I personally prefer the exhaust to exit straight out the back.

    Yes my thoughts exactly.
I have one turned down under the car and it’s very annoying if your stoped on a gravel road. I need it run out the back before it back on the road.
