Very timely, as I was hesitating to put a minor dent in one tube for additional steering shaft clearance, and now am more confident no performance will be lost....well, unless BBFs are more sensitive than SBCs. :)

Negates what I've been told for the last 50+ years! I guess you're never to old to learn.

    I LOVE this site !!

I never would have guessed that there would be so little difference. The results are well within the variations you would see in back-to-back dyno runs with minor differences in room and engine temperature. Well within the margin of error for the dyno.

I've thrown away headers that were less dented than those.

That was done ****** Headers back in 1971 with Grumpy Jenkins - similar results. There is of course more to it than what they did. If the primary diameter is of marginal size for the motor, it makes a bigger difference and on shorty block hugger types it can really make a difference as most are too small to begin with. But the next time you see a new header with a factory dent (we call them BAP's) don't be so quick to judge.

You put a 426 hemi in anything that's got steering and headers the torch and "forming" tools come out. Especially dart and barracudas. And they ran 2 1/4" primary tubes, steering and torsion bars and a starter. And they've seem to get down the track alright since '68 despite "manipulating for clearance"
I always tell guys buying mounts, headers for hemi transplants "guaranteed to fit" , don't buy ceramic coated cause you're gonna have to beat em or move em some. they never listen.
