I have decided to build some exhaust for my model a. Problem is I don't have much room. I would like to have it fairly quiet until I uncap it. It appears I could fit a couple gl*** packs. Or could I mount oval mufflers vertical instead of flat? What would you exhaust pros do? The red gl*** pack is a 28 thrush
Doesn't look too close to me as it is. If those bombs won't make it quiet enough for you you appear to have enough room to install short oval mufflers with the offset inlet / outlet such that the body is behind your battery. Also, there's not much depth to an A frame and they ride rather high so surely there's enough room underneath to suspend almost anything? Chris
The battery hangs low, can't really go under it. I may try the gl*** pack and see what it sounds like. I was kind of worried about heat next to the battery
I'd move the battery but I am not a pro. At least whatever you do throw some sort of insulation in there. I personally would run the gl*** packs, break them in right if you want it to rumble without being *obnoxious. I think one of the reason that side pipes became popular was the constraints of the old ch***is. Good for you for putting the exhaust under the car by the way. *obnoxious is a relative term here.
I ran out of room for the battery Rooky mistake should have mounted it further forward. You think the gl*** packs will be fairly quiet?
Gl*** packs rumble when they are new and get louder with age. What happens is that the gl*** gets blown out and they become an echo chamber. LOL A long time ago I purchased a pair of cherry bomb mufflers to go on an old Merc that we had and they actually came with break in instructions. They said to fire the car up and let it run at idle or slightly above for 20 minutes then shut the engine off and let the exhaust system cool before driving the car. I have tried to do that with every set of gl*** packs I have owned since then and it seems to work you don't dump a pile of gl*** the first time you stab the throttle that way.
