I'm with ryno. shiney street rod mercs with all the bling and little taste don't really belong here. just cuz it's a merc don't mean its a traditional custom.
aren't you being a bit of a hypocrit 49ratfink? I always enjoy all of your event pics, but you post plenty of "shiny street rods" :
it's not the shiney part, it's the overall style of the cars. his Mercs are high zoot bling bling street rods.
I really don't see that in his cars... the black widow may be a bit orange county choppers, but the rest seem to be really nice , well-put together cars. the car pics I re-posted from your post rock billet wheels and plastic mirrors...sure screams street rod to me. his cars seem to be all shod in whitewalls, etc..getting the feeling that you just don't like his cars or him...he has just as much right to post as you do.
Not knocking anything Rick does as it is all clearly very high quality but there is very little traditional about his finished builds. Ghost flames, EFI engines, wild body work and just because it is a merc with wide whites don't make any of this other stuff traditional. That being said I love that he posts his build up shots as I think alot of it is very informative and can be transfered over to traditional build styles and in no way have I ever thought of his posts as spam or free advertising. Seems to me if he was advertising for customers for his type of build this would not be the forum to do it in.
This is where I would usually ask you to define traditional but I already know the answer to that and it would take way more key strokes that I want to do tonight. I will say that it is TRADITION to push the envelop on any Kustom even going back to the Barris days. How quick would the car scene go stale if you could only only do 5 mods and they had to be in a certain order. Ghost flames-I don't like em but I will still consider his style and design a TRADITIONAL ride. Remember that Merc that was posted a month or so ago by the name of Mercules. Look at that car and look at EXK's and you will clearly see the difference. If you added white walls and caps to it, it would still be a cheesy hot rod.
haha, i dont know, your 2 posts just made me laugh. so bling bling is ok, big shiny billet. UNLESS its some high zoot shit right? climb off the high horse. Enjoy the build pictures. Absorb the knowledge and move on.
well answer me this oh wise ones.... would those Mercs be seen in Street Rodder or Traditional Rod and Kulture? as for being a hypocrite.. that's just goofy. you can't compare those cars pictured with the over the top looks of the Mercs in question
Man, this is why I barely post here anymore...you get someone like Rick who seems to only build Mercs, and although aren't really my taste, exhibit the kind of work we should all strive to achieve in our lifetime, only to be belittled and beraded by some nobody with a keyboard. What a joke.
Well said. I have seen too many posts saying this site should only be traditional rods and customs - you know, flathead engines, '39 trans, banjo rears, nothing past 1960 and so on - glad to see some airbags, shiny paint, modern front suspension, bling... you know, "Kustom" stuff. Hopefully in the future we will see on this site a lot more street rod and billet builds with bolt on parts so we can all learn from that.
deffently free advertising... good work always is. not the most tradiaitonal but its not like its sitting on 22's or fucking jb welded together like the guy with the video 50 ford shoebox half the people on that thread thought he was great i mean WTF jb weld?? id much rather see some fit and finish, and welding talent isntead of that shit, even if its on a frame with airbags.
Seriously back in the day when I had my merc I was able to ask any stupid question and it would be answered but now with so many internet know it all's its just a shit talking fest. It's sad to see this site becoming like that more and more everyday. I also agree with you that people should look at others cars and work of art and just because it's not their style or taste doesn't mean they should talk shit. the classic car sene would be crap if every single car looked the exact same. you have to push the limits all the time in everything it's what helps you grow.
Exactly, if even a bit elitist. The nice cars offset all the junk out there, like this thing with the caved in roof and uneven fenders terrible gaps and... Now if that isn't ironic...
Awsome car, awsome work...show all the build pics you want. I for one, respect all good work. I saw several things I may add to my own car in the future...We need variety, it would very boring if they all looked the same.
solo 909 "just because someone pushed the limits back in the day doesnt mean its "traditional" That is exactly what traditional is. This board is based on stuff that was done back in the day not stuff like modern fuel injected engines. Ricks stuff is very marginal as to fitting in on this board. Personally I think some of it belongs and some doesn't which makes for mixed feelings about his posts. As far as us accepting everyones "art" this board is not about accepting everyone which is why when stuff gets posted that is not in keeping with the "art" we do accept people make comments.
Not to call you out but "bought these supremes for my 61 Dodge, but since they are unilug I tought I'd try them on the 49. drove around all day playing "Lowrider" on the CD player." I dont think the cd player or the supremes were traditional for the 49 = ) weird what people come up with sometimes.
so the Cole Foster built `36 ford with airbags, crate ford motor, tci chassis with airride progress build on here should not have been? f'n hypocrits with too much time on their hands in front of the keyboard. I love to see and learn new stuff here..we all dig the same basic thing, but if you are too freakin narrow-minded to allow yourself to learn from different avenues and tastes, you are the only ones who are losing-out.I'm all done with this silliness. EXK, keep posting!
To each is own I hear you but back then they didnt have FI systems and I bet if they did they would have been swaping them in there for more Hp and faster times down the strip. When people pushed the limits back in the day they used modern technology at the time. They used the lastest and greatest They wouldn't stick a steam engine in there 52 shoebox they would only use the newest motor with the greatest HP that year. To say that you can only use parts that are 5 years or closer to the year of your car is crazy. People today are using technology of the times not only for better ideas but saftey, comfort and better MPG. We all know that 70% or greater of people here use upgrades for their braking systems but nobody says anything about that. I mean if your going to claim being traditional you have to "Be traditional" which to me would be all stock parts and only body mods and lowering. anyways im not here to argue but everyone will have their own truth of what is traditional and what the limits are.
Damn this is getting bad!! All kinds of cold and dirty lowblows...woooff! That said, Love the work EXK, keep it up!
------------------------------------------------------------------- I think the Merc guys are the hardest on a Mercs, if they are not 100% tradilional. They are missing out of a lot of helpful information if they wouldn't make neg. comments. I rarly show photos of my 49 for that reason. TwoChops
Thats in your profile lol what about this http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/album.php?albumid=2308&pictureid=18970 A 350 in the 49? wasn't the first year of the 350 in 1967? Im just saying. that's not really traditional. Anyways I like your cars just as much as everyones here even if I wouldnt buy it. Just chill out and accept others cars for what they are and be happy its not the 1,000th clone.
