Ok heres a totally hypothetical question. I am not a machiest nor and a flathead pro I just wanna use what I have if possible. I have a perfect 21 stud block, bearings and rebuild stuff is high and Im cheap. I also have a real nice 49 Ford crank, and 8BA rods. Can I use the crank in this block, with the rods, and bore out the jugs to a standard 3 3/16 which is the 8BA bore(?) or do I have to use the 221 pistons? is there any problems with crank bearings, using the 21 stud ones with a turned down crank or will the 8BA ones work? Any other problems anyone can think of?

I know I could just find another engine but I have all this stuff allready and will use it if I can. Thanks in advance!

What block do you have? The answer would be yes, one type with lots of crank turning (not just bearings), the other with even more and some welding and oil rerouting...8BA main bearings, nohow.
WHY? Same stroke as 221 crank, which fits. If you went to the 8BA crank, you could use those rods, possibly with some clearance grinding. Pistons would have to be inserted from below during build...8BA rods offer you increased weight, cheaper and easier but not advantageous bearing changeover. Use the 221 rods and crank, save lots of money, don't incur the disadvantages...
