Been poor. Don't ever wanna go back. Money is a great tool, as long as you don't just live to get it. Money means more freedom, more choices, and more fun when you give it away to someone in need. I don't have the tools or talent alot of you here have to build a rod, so I have mine built. The pride of accompishment you feel is the same that I feel when I help someone in need. And I'm keeping a Rod Shop worker employed. Win-Win situation for all. And NO, I'm not sending any of you here $$$.
what else are you going to do with your time and money? you don't have to spend 18 hours a day foraging for food or scratching a living out of the dirt from dawn til dusk, you can scrimp and save but then your likely never gonna be rich anyways so just buy what keeps you and the family happy and press on!
You should hang out with all the guys I went to high school with. They have factory jobs, and they drink at the bar three nights a week. That's their whole purpose in life. And they all have a "better than you" at***ude about them, because they were cool football players 6 years ago in HS. I work for myself and I build cars. As far as a hobby and making a living goes, I couldn't be happier. I haven't had an alarm clock set to go to work in two years. I still laugh in the morning when I wake up and it's noon. As far as the futility of life **** goes, an old guy who made a living hauling s**** in the back of a pickup his whole life told me "without bills to pay, what would you do with your life?" I always liked that quote. Now post some pics of those T's
It Is. and we all chase in different ways. and if you have "lost it" (your mind) it was a long time ago. Its more about the hunt then the chase for me. I enjoy the hunt more then the chase. The chase makes me sleepy. I hunt the junk or parts and turn it into greenbacks. You have to make the game of the hunt work for you and enjoy what you do in life what ever it is. The money may or may not come later. I never count on anything unless I have it my hand. It all can be gone in the blink on an eye. I can tell your a mood. call bs
Well said man. Well said. I'm not the best at writing my thoughts down on paper, or, as the case may now be, electrons. BUT i feel the need to try and explain some of the things that are rattling around in my mostly empty, attention deficit suffering head. bear with me cause it might get messy in here, cause no ****, i am attention deficit. i come from a family where "if you cant make it, build it, or grow it, you gotta bust your *** to make the money to buy it". not because of some grand ideal, but because of lack of the almighty $ my dad busted his *** long hard hours working as a crane deck welder, iron foundry worker, machine tool grinder, and truck driver. my mom worked full time when i was a kid, not because she needed "something to occupy her time" but to help keep food on the table and shoes on the feet of my sister and i. my folks never had new cars. no money for something like that. hell, most of the time new PARTS to keep the things running was a rare thing. my dad bought a used plymouth but it dont matter... the intake was warped and dad taught me how to pull it off, and flatten the carb mating surface with a flat file and a straight edge. worked like a charm for a LOT of years. point is, you dont NEED to spend a ton of money out of pocket to enjoy this whole car hobby, you just need a love of old vehicles, and a lot of heart. blood sweat and tears is what this is all about meng... blood sweat and tears
yea, but i dont know bout you, but i sure as hell dont need a new rig but i sure as hell want that olds mill Levis has up for sale
Hey Tingly -Youve been here to my fine establishment-RIGHT>? You know Im in it for the money Right? Ive been in the car bussiness and barely makin it at times for so long it seems like its been a success to me.I mean I can forget the lean spells and remember the good times..thats the gift......the reward-Just liking what you are doin.
There are some people who have attempted to do just that. Hippies. Apparently the key to inner peace has something to do with VW vans, marijuana and not showering. I think maybe Communism is supposed to work on that theory too, but we all know how well that works out. If you're really burdened by money, feel free to send your excess to me. I can PM you my mailing address. People who say money is the root of all evil have never eaten instant mashed potatoes made only with water and salt because that's all they had.
If it wasn`t money it would be something else of value. It`s been that way since time began. I`m working on a relay from 51ratt`s to California, could have a full load to and from.Jerry
If I've learned three things about money in my life they boil down to these 1) figure out how to make money work FOR you not YOU working for it 2) position yourself as more of a check receiver than a check giver and 3) the more money you have the better looking you are! ha- ha!
i've been thinking about it too. i just returned from Ohio for my first time and i had a blast, checking out amish country after the NFL hall of fame induction at Canton i went to the Mooney W. musuem. can't remember his last name. walreth, wralthe.. i don't know, but you know, the guy that made model trains out of wood and ivory with no power tools. well i learned about him during the tour and he never sold one train. , he even turned down 50,000 dollars from NYC. grand central station to leave his trains and himself on display.... this is in 1927 or so so it's like turning down a million dollars. the more i learned about him, the more i saw the genius in him just like kenneth howard.. my conclusion is that the true one in a million artists never sell their work, and hate money. you would not believe how much in common kenny and mooney, plus other artists like van gogh have.
I'e only run into two types of people who I think honestly don't cae about money. Those who have just accepted the fact that they are never going to have much of it and decide to be content as long as they aren't cold or hungry, and those who have so ****ing much of it they don't need to care about it any more. Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose,
I think that's why it's so much more fun to work on your own car than to work on someone else's even when you're getting paid for it.
