Would someone be kind enough to explain how lowering blocks work? I just can't seem to visualize how blocks (something you build upward with) help lower a car. Thanks! -Taylor
Your leaf springs stay where they are but your rear axle is now riding on top of the blocks - which are sitting on top of the leaf springs. They raise the axle therefore lowering the car once you sit it back on the ground. JH

The spring is blue. Naturally, it wouldn't sit outside the wheel, but for this demo, just visualize, maaannn... Stock: Blocked: Notice how the little blue block lowers the car by sitting on top of the spring? Trippy.

It also only works for longitudinal springs, not transverse ones as found in early fords. It would work great in a Riv.
Now you know just enough about blocks to be extremely dangerous. Keep in mind that blocks can only get you so far without creating an extremely unsafe situation. When the blue spring goes below the red rim and the black tire goes flat it aint pretty. All kinds of red blood (not shown on diagram) may result. Just a fun reminder.
Lowering blocks are 2 x 4's that are set in a pair under your front bumper. Then a torch is used to heat your springs until they collapse. Keep heating the springs until the car's front bumper finally rests on the 2 x 4's. Just kidding, don't try this at home.

LOL...glad to see a couple guys got my back around here. Not dumb, just uneducated when it comes to some hot rod/American steel stuff. And just to clear the air, NorCalRiviera comes not only from my location, but the fact that I drive a 1967 VW Camper. It's a conversion done by Riviera Motors in Beaverton, OR back in the day. Sorry...no Buicks here. I just wish Ryan would let me change my username to Shoeboxer. I'd really like to find a '49 Ford someday. -Taylor

Anyway you stupid fucks, back to the lowering blocks. It's a good idea to use shims w/ the blocks (little wedges) to get a good pinion angle. Otherwise you grind stuff up pretty quick-like...at least if you're running 3-4 inch blocks.

Hey, there was a post today (or yesterday?) on the NorCalRockabilly yahoo group. Dude's selling a '49 Tudor.
It's probably the same guy I saw on the OSR board selling his '49 Shoebox. The pic in my avatar is from VLV'03. I just really like it. As for the username again, I've definitely gone into my profile many times and my username cannot be changed by me. Anyone have an in with Ryan? -Taylor
