why would the previous owner wire this like this? loops with wires weaved in and out. the wires in the loop i am holding are attached at both ends. fortunately he never finished the engine and headlight connections so at least i didn't have to disconnect the whole harness
Prime example of a sever lack of reading and comprehension skills, that or he had lunch here and forgot about wiring. HRP

That is a mess!....I can only imagine the 3 stooges wiring the horn ****on, each with a spool of wire, and constant poking fingers in the eyes!
Some folks care deeply, as to how they do ANY job, others simply "don't give a ****". Unfortunately, you have a "don't give a ****" P.O.
He was trying to follow "ALL" the instructions he received from posting the question on the HAMB message board..
I think I have followed behind that guy before. I'd say it is the "this is what they gave me I need to use it all' syndrome rather than t******* each wire to fit and running the wires in an orderly fashion. If you want neat wiring make friends with a guy who has worked for the phone company for years. I have a friend who worked for the phone company for 30+ years and his work was so neat it blows your mind. When he retired from the Phone company he also retired from wiring cars for guys much to the chagrin of a lot of guys in the PNW.
Obviously, you have never untapped a wiring harness from a late 1980s-2000 factory harness, have you? Most factory harnesses I've untapped looked much the same. The wires wrap around each other, and some timed double back 2-3 times over the course of the harness. Who ever wired that car probably has untapped a factory harness, and concluded it was proper for it to be that way. Gene
OK....before I get ripped a new AH........that was a gag photo. I had a bunch of oem wires I had pulled from a van just in case I needed a specific color/gage I couldn't get. I stuffed one end out the dash opening and wrapped the other end around my neck. The only actual wires in the photo are the 1/2 dozen loops. With that said, it's easy to understand how somebody could get frustrated. This photo below is the real thing, and none of it is ch***is wiring.
That **** happens! All the time : - when wire without a plan, - when Run one wire at a time - when start at the wrong end - when transplant harness -when make your own kit - when the dog ate the directions. Or the kit was bought 5 years ago and lost them - drink tequila and listen to ribbon dance music - dizzy from blood rushing to head - have never had to troubleshoot an electrical problem. - bunch it together in a harness then hook it up so you just have to do it once. Explains factory harness cluster **** Pick one or invent another -
Ever see how commercial electricians wire your house before the dry wall goes on? It may be safe, but it isn't "sanitary" by any means. Gary
i started to clean it up and untangle the mess. the wires are all marked and i already found some that went to the wrong place. i was working on my back, bent over and twisted, thinking they were just tucked up under and when i pulled the front wires through it would neaten up. then i came to the conclusion the dash and all the wiring needed to be removed to do the job. funny @gnichols, the guy is a licensed electrician............. maybe he grabbed the Karmasutra instead of the instruction book?
I think you want the wires all the length, that way the 'lectric will get to the lights the same time...this way the left head light won't come on before the right tail light!
I see this all the time. It is amazing how many really nice cars have hidden wiring that looks like that. I call them 90% cars, it's like the builder got close to the end and just got tired and sloppy. The sad thing is that some are also dangerous i.e. power windows with no relays and the same with high amp lights. I have seen them come from pro-builders like that also but fortunately not often.
Hey Moe, here's a pipe, but it's full of wires! Well, drag them wires outa there and bring that pipe over here!.... Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app

After...I know ,I know, zip ties and split plastic looms !!!! The dash can be removed with it's harness intact by disconnecting from the terminal strip....the wires are coded so no problem putting them back correctly.
