There is a typically a tag bolted on with the rear cover, if that isn't legible then I think you'll end up having to pull the cover and counting teeth. From your original post I think that may be where you're at. Sorry.
I thought you had the tag all figured out, no? The 5L73888H31 tag is the one you want. That 5 is probably a 3L73, which makes it 3.73. That's what my exploder had in it, but there are clearly more options... The explorer rears have the bigger 31 spline axles and are much beefier than the ranger/mustang axles of the same era. FWIW, but I think that's been covered too.
I couldn't tell you for sure without looking at the axle flange, but I would imagine that you'd be able to go up that little bit. Mine are all mounted up, so I can't see the flange, but maybe someone else out there can help!
I had mine redrilled for a 5 x 4 3/4 pattern . I would say your 5 x 5 would not be a problem. I sent the axles to Moser's and had them do it.
Many Exploders are 3.73 with the L/S, they have a second tag telling you to to use 75W140 synthetic on the TracLok ones. They are all offset to the right. I use two right axles and shorten the left side of the housing to make them centered. No need to weld the tubes unless you are building an eight second race car. Don't do any welding on any rear end unless you have a jig to assure the thing is straight.

Well I have seen dozens of them, and have bought/re-sold several, you see...they are a popular swap for the Jeep Cherokee/Wrangler.
If i run 670x15(27" tall) fiestones, and use the 350 trans with the explorer 373 geared rear....what rpms am i looking at say going 60 mph?
