That '58 Caddy rear bumper might be useful as well if the ends aren't rusted, and the fuel tank and sending unit on the '60 Mercury might be savable since it hasn't had gas in it for 40 years or so...

I know this is off topic but are there any jobs out that way? Body shops/custom shops? My wife and I have been talking about moving out that way but I am curious about jobs... Jim

  16. it is east of town along the rr. There is a map and or pics earlier in this thread. It is on RR land so, watch what you are helping yourself to. It is not yours.

  17. We made our trip last week but, I did not take pics this time, the other 2 did. but, they have yet to send me any so, as soon as I get them, will be posting here.
Our next trip in will be next week.

I finally got some pics from Todd. Still waiting on them from Mark. We hiked some pretty serious terrain this time. It may be hard to tell from the pic but, there is a lot of vertical in this pic-

I explored two mines that were filled in. I moved some rock and crawled in on my belly only to find them quite small. Not sure why they even filled them. At least we now know what they are. Also explored the 'hopper' areas as we call them-

Being the gearheads we are, I had to check out the mechanism to see if it still works, it does!

This area had to be a big operation with a huge mine. We found vents for it at the top of the mountain, lots of tailings and equipment but, the openings have been filled in. We think we found the main opening but, I was the only one who wanted to dig into it. We would need shovels and more too. Maybe another time if people want it. I think we could access it within a few hours with 2-4 people.

Also, I host the annual Nostalgic Show & GO! and it is 3 months from today at Speedworld Dragstrip. All are invited and welcome!

This shot gives the impression that it was taken from a plane but, nope, we took it on part of our hike. The views are just outstanding! Remember, this is NOT the Grand Canyon, it is the Salt River Canyon north of Globe.

We did find some tin too! Perhaps someone here can ID it?

  21. This thread makes me wanna travel around more small parts of Arizona. I took a day trip to Wickenburg a couple days ago just to check out the town.

We are planning our next auto archeological hike/adventure to the Salt River Canyon area on Sat the 16th. If anyone would like to join us, email or call me.

We will be meeting in Mesa around 6am to get in a full day.

Just a note: With the demise of Speedworld, someone nearby should document this moment in time for future HAMB historians!:(

On my last trip through the desert, a guy i met shared the location of these two cars. The sport coupe was of little interest to me but the coupe was very nice. I finally got to talk to the owner and I started off by asking him what he might let the car go for and he said that some young fella had just been by a week earlier and they decided that he should not let it go for less than 15k since them 32's were selling for 100 grand all fixed up. I enjoyed getting to see it but we could not make a deal. Oh well, the chase is half the fun.

Yes, It is about a 33 PD coupe but i did not think it was worth commenting on here since that was obvious. I suppose i should have explained further that i tried to educate the guy that it was not a 32 Ford coupe like the kid that came by a week earlier saw on fast and loud or some place like that. I like the car and i agree that it has value, but it is not worth anywhere near 15k to me.

It's a shame that ignorant people are convincing owners that they have a gold mine -- yet the ignoramus doesn't have the cash or balls to actually make an offer... and the owner won't take the time to learn what he really has...
