    Well let the criticism begin.

I braced the section with a crossmember before cutting. the chassi tweeked allitle but i brought it back with some c-clamps. before welding i measured some full length diagonals of the chassis and was satisfied.
Weld may look shotty but i know i got full penetration.

    what do you think??

No matter how solid you think that is it's not, you tack welded it on instead of running a bead so you didn't get the weld hot enough to penetrate, also I would not recommend fluxcore on a frame the welds are just to porous. do yourself and everyone else on the road a favor and please have it done properly, it will be no fun driving around and having that break on you...the outcome will not be pretty.

  4. You know you got full penetration eh?

Flux core MIG sucks unless your building fences in the wind and rain. And in the hands of a novice welder you really can't tell what you created for yourself. You really need to practice more with proper settings and how to run a bead before attemtping something like this.

Welding aside, that will be a poor connection. You really need to create an extension of the frame to fill the gap instead of angle and you will certainly need to box the frame well past six inches on eiher side.

I think that IF this is a serious post, you need to enroll in a welding class. If you are just getting started you really need to read more and practice more. I find it hard to believe that you would post something like this unless you were just trying to rile up the troops...which it will. Just the way you worded your post makes me think it's a spoof.

    HA HA very funny.

The way that it looks I don't think we will have to worry about that. When the motor and tranny are put in this they will most likely buckle the thing in half anyway.

Maybe this is from a "HOW TO" article in 'Ol Stool Rodz !!

  16. Looks like a HUGE liability...

If that thing fails and causes an accident, prepare to lose everything. Ugly welds are one thing, as a grinder can usually clean them up. But ugly tack welds don't do anything except cause nightmares.

If anyone thinks that tack welds (regardless of how many) are considered acceptable for structural welds, they should stick to the AMT models.

    Scary!!

    LOL

This is a joke. Has to be. Even the MOST novice welder knows that that is going to fail, and quickly.

I bet I could pop that angle iron off with a medium-size pry bar.

If this is serious, then that is some scary chit. No wonder the Australians laugh at us.

Here is one method for lengthening a frame.
First. Draw lines on both sides of the frame at the EXACT same place and the EXACT same size. Cut along the lines.
Second. Pull the frame apart to the desired length.
Third. Tack frame back together. (you should be able to handle this part judging from your pics)
Fourth. Measure, remeasure and remeasure again to make sure everything is square and even.
Fifth. Have someone else with the proper welding skills reweld the frame back together. Add filler plate to the open areas. Box the inside of the frame atleast 6" past each end of the cut.

PLEEEEEZE Do NOT drive the car that way!!! Your rig settings were too low when you welded, you have inclusions due to contamination (metal not properly cleaned) and...wait, let me go back and read what welder you're using...there are far too many problems with this "weld" job to even explain here. I really am NOT trying to offend you here...maybe you should take a welding class before you attempt this again.

I just went back and reread some...is this really flux-core? I'd be willing to bet it's a cheap box welder too. You really need a gas-shielded set-up to do this kind of work. Rat-terd welding (exactly what it looks like - a rat crapped every 1/4 inch on your frame) will fail the INSTANT you put any load on it. Follow kustombypooks advice on how you should lengthen a frame...the only problem being that NOW you have to cut outside the scrap you created. The job just became 3 times more involved...you need a professional for this whether you want to admit it or not.
