Hi everyone, Was gonna post this in tech, but it wouldnt let me. I have a set of V-G 24 SP's Need at least a 21 inches throat depth they are 15.5 now. Any suggestions on bracing/extending them?Maybe girder?, like a bead-roller? Thanks. Al
Don't make it so complicated: Take a set of 11Rs and saw the jaws in two in the middle. Splice back together with 1/4 X 1 X desired length flat bar.
I would suggest four pieces of 3/16 x 1. One on each side of the cuts at the appropriate length. Then insert spacers of the correct thickness every 2-3" between the side pieces, welded in place. Will make a pretty strong bridge.
I just use 1" square tube to do mine. Cut the arms, splice in some square tube to get the length you want and weld 'em up. Works for me. Tim D.
Off the subject a little bit: The original Vise Grip was invented and produced tn the early 1900's in Dewitt Nebraska.. Earlier this year they shut down the plant and moved the entire operation to China. Sad day! So probably by now they are all produced over there. Hang on to your old ones as I'm sure the quality has suffered. I'm sure many of you have used the cheap knock-offs in the past. As you surely know there is nothing like a real Vice Grips!
DAMN!!!, Aint nothing sacred???!!!! Thanks for the replies. Was kind of a dumb thread, but I thought Id throw it out there. Picked up some 1"X1/8" stock, which fit snug. We'll see. Thanks. Al
