Im trying to set up an external coil on my 40 flathead. Ive found plenty of stock wiring diagrams but cant find any info on the propper way to wire an exernal coil on this distributor. Does it have to use a ballast resistor? If so how does that work into the equation? How is the condensor wired to the coil....? All basic questions with easy answers but just cant seem to find the right info! Any info would be a huge help! Thanks.
Looks good so far, its the same as the stock wiring, make sure the LV coil terminal to the distributor wire is based upon the ground of the circuit. If positive ground then the positive terminal goes to the distributor and vice-versa. Next check the coil to determine if it is an internal or external resistor coil. If its not marked consider it a non resistor and you will need a resistor based upon the voltage of your battery. Ballast resistor should be connected in series with the power wire coming from the ignition to the coil.
Thanks! It is neg. ground. So that means that the LV neg terminal gets wired to the small post on the top of the distibutor? Does the condensor also get connected to the same post? Thanks for your help!
