If I remember right , this is a matter of a bearing swap?

Does anyone know the bearing numbers to be able to mount these brakes on my spindles?
Any other help would be appreciated as well, Brian

These are the part numbers I used to put '53 F100 brakes on my '46 spindles:

    Seals:
    BCA/NATIONAL Part # 450461

    Bearings:
    TIMKEN Part # 09067
    TIMKEN Part # 09195
    TIMKEN Part # 14116
    TIMKEN Part # 14276

I think F1 and and F100 hubs use the same bearings/seals, right?

Yup! I have found that the bearings have gotten EXPENSIVE at my local bearing warehouse to do this conversion in the last couple of years. I hate to say, 'cause I probably know the country of origin, but Speedway sells a F-1, F-100 to early Ford bearing kit that has all you need and the seals for about 40.00... I can't vouch for the quality though.

  4. i have seen that part # many times as the seal to use ,both on here and in magazine articles , but as far as i'm concerned , it is wrong....that seal is for a 1.5 inch shaft....the seal surface on a old ford spindle is 1.562 inches

i have always used national # 473441.....this one is for a 1.562 shaft

I'm glad you brought that up. When ***embling everything, I noticed that seal fits really tight around the spindle shaft. Didn't seem quite right, but I went with it anyways. It did wear the seal down quickly, but thankfully didn't harm anything. Thanks for the other/correct part number!

I used an F1 Speedway bearing kit on my '40 a few years ago, about 6K miles so far.
    Everything OK.

Wow you guys are absolutely incredible. Not just the part numbers, but a magazine article as well.
    Much appreciated. Brian

Look at the article and grind the bearing! I have used the Speedway bearings with great success on many cars.

The last time I bought them at the parts store they cost me $140 compared to the $50 from Speedway and they were still made in China.

I have. Fits just like any early ford spindle, but you loose your cross steer unless you put on aftermarket steering arms. F-1 was not cross steer. I used f-1 brakes and spindles on my old 32 that was in R&C.

Which issue was your 32 in R&C? I can't remember what it looked like.

sept 2003, satin black tudor, flatty, channeled, unchopped highboy. What steering box you plan to run? an F-1 box would make all these parts fit your car sweet!!

So far I have gathered the backing plates, hubs and good drums. The rest, I hope to get new.

  17. I have never done it but it is my understanding that running early Ford wire wheels on the pickup drums requires an extremely thick spacer. You might ask Richard Lacy at earlyv8@aol.com, (626) 338-2282.
