Is I was to just cut the crossmember out with a saw zaw right next to the frame rails would that leave enough material? Or should I grind all the rivets? I'm not lazy truck is deep in the woods and battery sawzaw would be much easier. REMOVAL damn phone Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
A little more information is need to help answer your question. I ***ume you plan on using the cross member in another project? and what does a timble have to do with it? I remember Desi Arnaz use to play one. HRP
Yeah sorry about the timble things it was supposed to say removal. I hit post before I realized it and can't edit it from my phone. Lol I'm going to use the crossmember and pedals in my modal a project that is running a 59ab and a 39 toploader with a closed 40 ford rear. My question is would there be enough meat to work with left in the f-1 crossmember if I just cut it out right beside the frame rails instead of finding the rivets? I would rather remove it the right way but the truck is far from a power source so a cordless sawzaw would be the easiest option. Thanks Cmichael Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
OK,I follow you now,I would think the Model A ch***is is narrower than the F-1 but just to make sure measure the Model A frame and make sure before you start cutting. HRP
You'll need as much as you can get. I'll take a picture of mine installed in a Model A ch***is. Is the drive train still in the donor truck? If not, use your sawzall to cut the actual frame. It would be four cuts and net you the entire X member. Try to get the pedals as well for you'll need those in the conversion.
...and the front shock brackets...and the steering box/column...front spindles and brakes...the wheels. Damn...just tow the whole thing home! You know you want too!
I'm with @Hackerbilt , drag it home and take it apart right. There's a ton of goodies there. What you don't need, someone else will, so you can part out whatever's left.
Yeah I think that is probably the best option. Thanks for the info everyone! Cmichael Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Thanks. Please post pic that would be helpful. Do you have a build thread? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I always grind down the top of the rivets a little, center punch them, drill them and punch them out.
Oh... I think I have seen one of those before. They sell them at Walmart? Lol Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Drag the whole thing home. There's so much to use in an F1. Even the ch***is rails are made out of the best steel you can get. You can't buy steel like that these days. Plus all the FH parts mentioned before.
