After finding and re-purchasing "Love is Blue" in Montana (after 30 years gone! ) , the exact car I purchased new in 1966 and built into a 8 point caged race car in 1969 - racing it at AHRA and other tracks from Lions and Beeline to New York National and Connecticut Dragway. Starting in 2009 I did a 100% complete rotisserie and bag restoration. A new Detroit Thompson Automotive hand built 572 and Tremec overdrive 5 speed replaced the 430 BB's that used to send this 3400 /lb. car to consistant 10.00 e.t. / 133 mph blasts. A great reunion with an old friend. The transformation took a 2+ year dedicated commitment.
OT for this forum but BAD ASS for sure! im sure you have a lot of great memories - love the wheelwells......glad you didnt put it back stock....
Thanks for the nice comments. You hit on one of the two biggest decisions in the rebuild - wheel wells and roll cage. I was able to put a lot of "the band" back together (the guys who worked on the car with me - originally and over it's racing life). The wheel wells were originally a product of the rule book that said no alteration to inner wheel well - but outers were free. I actually lost a protest decision and a large check for winning. The wheel wells are part of the cars personality and will stay for the rest of it's life with me. The roll cage lost out to my family who likes to go to events and ride in the back seat!!
Even though it's an OT vehicle I love the car and the dedication involved. Congratulations and have fun with it. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
