av8, Is there an article or book detailing the install of the Jag compoments? Or, am I thinking you were going to chronical the efforts at Fullers shop for future publication? I think this would be useful as these trucks just seem to be gaining in popularity.
Also, does anyone here know of a local (Mich./Ohio) source for the Jag components? Also, what would one expect to pay for a complete(front and rear) Jag suspension?

Frank -- I was hoping to do a simple pictorial how-to, but Fuller wasn't happy with the way the project was going so I'm still lots of shots short of a good, clear story. It will happen, however.

As you might expect, the XJ Jaguars are distibuted more heavily in the large populations centers on the West and East coasts of the US. I can't speak for the availability and prices in the East, but we're up to our armpits in decent suspension-donor cars on the left coast. It varies a little from week to week, but my favorite shopping source is -- recycler.com -- a weekly SoCal shopper with a staggering amount of activity.

Most of the left-coast Jags, and particularly those from SoCal are essentially rust free and in overall good physical condition. The more comman reasons for sidelining these otherwise good cars have to deal with emissions compliance. In general, the Jags have a poor resale track record, and it doesn't take very much needed work to reduce a car's value to little more than salvage. Sad but true.

av8, You've got a sharp eye! I don't know what year my rear fenders are...the guy I bought my truck from said they were "smaller" commercial fenders. I donno? All I know is they seem to have a smaller wheel opening then my friends 50. Makes putting tires on it VERY challanging.

Here's my daily driven 48 F-1. Dropped axle, new stock type spring (I am the guy that sent AV8 the posie spring), 9" rear from a 68-72 pickup (spring pads are in the correct location), 425 ci Cad w/ Turbo 400, ram ***ist power steering, & disc brakes (ECI kit).

I use this as my work truck to haul around my carpentry tools.

Wow these post move quick.... AV8 in reply to your question I dropped my front end from a 1983 series 3 XJ6. Old jags are every where over here .. despite being UK built they definately dont like road salt, and they rust faster than a toyota at a beach party.! I chopped off the front extension mounts. sacraficing a little road noise for less bulk, and welded the front end into a check i cut from the frame. Once in situ I then boxed the inner side of the frame and welded it all solid to the jag clip. I also bolstered the outer edge of the frame with similar plates.

I done this mod on a 50 Chevy truck ch***is. It falls off just where the centre line of the subframe lands, Cutting a cheque into the frame at that point allowed the clip to sit into the frame comfortable, and at the proper angle and also served to lower the front another 1 inch. or so.

Where the hole for the spring compresser tool goes is kind of a natural platform, then you have the small platform for the Jag engine mounts whick in turn serve to support side ways movement on the steering rack mounts.

I trimmed the engine mount platfoms and built up the crossmenber in that area to increase the combined platform area so that the ch***is had a good flat surface on which to locate. it also made it nice and easy to tie in that area with the inner ch***is boxing plates. I think you can maybee make this out on the pics i posted.. Hardest item for me to locate was a LHD steering rack but managed to get one from NY off Ebay.. Hope this helps..

I know there is a lot of discussion about this but dont cut it up and put a damn sub frame under it get a dropped axle and set it down that way or with leaf springs depending on how low you want it but everybody whacks the frame up on these and they dont need it. I drive mine everyday and it drives and stops great. Also here is a pic of it.

Deuce, If I got me a Ford (looked at a few but all to far gone with Rust over here) I woulda kept it trad and went the drop axle route etc... but i ended up with a chevy so what the hey ..LOL.. you can only improve it ..One of the F1s i tested was stock and i have to say it was a softer smoother ride than i expected, brakes were fine as was the steering when i blew up the tyres to 40 psi!! (other than the 10psi the guy was running) I woulda probably had that one had it not burst into flames during the test run!!!

Hey Sam, you've seen my old heap ('52 F1, used to be badly faded green, now yellow w/ Gilmore logos on the doors) on afew occasions. For now I am running the stock 6cyl and stock suspension.

Future drive train plans call for either a 400 Pontiac or 500 Caddy backed by a turbo 400 with some sort of rear end upgrade (Ford 9" ?). Since I plan on leaving the truck at stock height, my plan for suspension is to refurb the stock front end components and create a cross steer set up using a Chevelle or Nova steering box.

Av8's Jag IFS set up sounds pretty slick, but if I were to go the IFS route, I would use one of elPolacko's Dakota cross members.
