If I was wanting to use the self energizing brakes and the steering box to up grade an early v8 do i only want the parts off a 1956 f-100 or are there years that work?? Have access to 53 F-100 and a 51 F-2 3/4 ton for parts.

  2. the brakes from `53 to `56 F100s are the same....and are basically the same as `48-`52 F1

Someone may correct me if I'm wrong but the F100 will be 11" drums and the 3/4 ton may have 12" drums??

Also, the backing plates on the F100 are the same for 48-56 but the drums and hubs are different for 48-52 and 53-56.

  4. I thought I read somewhere, to have the self energizing brakes use the hardware kit from a early to mid 60's F100. Have not had the time to check this out for sure, please correct me if wrong.

The 48 up are self engergizing . I think you are refering to converting to self adjusting, which would need the 60s hardware kits.

  6. Yes, self adjusting. I had just woke up and was still foggy.

Speedway sells a kit for converting 53 to 56 F100 brakes to early V8 Fords to 1948 spindles. You need the F100 backing plate, hub and drums.
