hey anybody ever z the front of a 53 to 56 F-100 done the rear before so dont care about that. wondering if anyone ever did the front dont want to hear about some clip job or mustang number 2
Many many years back I checked out that idea. As I remember it there were 2 issues that stopped me. The front and rear spring mount's. The firewall end was clear under the toe board and involved the Trans cross member as well as the front cab mounts. Then the front end was involved with the core support cross member and involved radieator. At that time it was more than I could get my head around. Today I would probably look into some much shorter springs and bring all 4 mount points closer together just to minimize the amount of work to do. On that Truck I just ended up getting a dropped axle from More-drop. That worked out really well. That was about 1968 or 69. The Wizzard
I remember the same problems with the idea on a '54 that I had and my solution was to channel it. I don't recall how I worked around the core support though it was a very long time ago.
You probably end up having to move your steering box up to correct your steering geometry. This screws up the column inside the cab also as it changes the length, which can be shortened, but also screws up the angle and position at which it comes into the cab and the angle it comes off from the dash. I'd check into a drop axle and/or springs.
box goes up with the frame section i understand all that, wasn't asking for your opinion just wanted to see some pics
I was just looking at one of my Trucks thinking about your idea. It looks like if you came up with a 32" long spring you could Z the frame ahead of the rear spring hanger and behind the front hanger and avoid all the cross member issues as well as the core support/ rad issues and drop the truck 5 1/4". Now that might get you into oil pan to Axle problems being your limited to how much you can raise the motor without drive shaft issues. 3 1/2" might be enough to find a sweet spot and not have many problems at all. Now I know that's not pictures but hay, I'm thinking out loud here. Anything is possible if your willing to do what it takes. The Wizzard
if you ask a question here you are going to get some opinions. don't get pissed, just look for answers to your question. I do not have the answer to your question but, have a idea. possibly run a No Limit, cmwtrucks.com, etc, Rack & Pinion Kit for a Straight Axle. might help you do what you want to do without having to deal with a stock steer box, etc.
I'm seein' it well enough but I think in pictures. The nice thing about an Effie is the room you have between the hood and the engine, you can get away with a lot of movement if the engine if you stay low rise and don't pancake the hood. The driveshaft angle can be over come but you will have to build a hump for the tranny.
I guess if you Z the back the drive line is a non issue. Just raise the motor and build a trans cover and shaft tunnel. The Wizzard
the idea is to not have to buy a bunch of expensive stuff I like the stock suspension stuff just want it lower s b c is rear sump so that should help with axle/ pan issues chop off the bottom of the rad suppoort use a mustang radiator drop the front horns back down steering geometry i.e. drag link is stock full travel suspension cut it at about 15degrees and the wheels would go forward in the wheelwell about an inch just the front cab mount looks to need mods no 400 dollar dropped axle and uphill draglink
It sounds like you already know what youre doing, so you better start cutting that poor truck up then. Post lots of pictures
Let's see some pictures of where your at currently. I'm all about a small budget and would like to see progress. I bought my first F-100 in 1964 and have never been without one since including now. The Wizzard
