I still find that people bash this book hilarious. What do people here bitch about wanting in a magazine?
All traditional types of rods and customs, no fluff-mobiles? Check.
Techs related solely to traditional hot rod related stuff, not the newest electric do-hicky? Check.
Tons of shots of cool ass cars just like we like, no 150,000 Boyd shitboxes? Check.
Products, music and information and stuff a lot of us are into here on the boards? Check.
So why the FUCK do yo guys bitch? You whine about how Rod and Custom is too billet and now OSR is to rockabilly. Jesus Christ... you guys get what you want and still bitch about it.Don't like what's in the mag? Go build somethin' worth showin' in one!

That about sums it up.

I agree.

4. Never saw the book- wouldnt look if I did/quit reading most of em- [IMG]
It would be punishment enough for the dude that built it just to have to actually drive it........
further punishment could be doled out in the form of forcing him to crawl into that fuckin trunk to get his spare tire out........ [IMG]

Wasn't there an old hot wheels car built with no back window like that? I swear I saw one in a magazine awhile back with no window and a severe chop. I've been wrong once or twice before though.

So why are you singling me out? I never said I didn't like the magazine... all I've ever said is that I think they need to change the name to reflect what it is they are preaching...

And I also think you nailed the point of veiw of a faction of people on this board... that is, the group of guys that aren't really into the $100,000 billet bought rods... AND at the same time dislike the RAT ROD movement where guys think it is cool to drive a total piece of shit that is cobbled together...

There is such thing as a well built, traditional ROD or Custom... it doesn't have to be painted... it doesn't have to be expensive... and it probably isn't 2" off the ground with a 10" channel and the driver looking like a monkey fucking a football... it's a car that the BUILDER cares enough about to fit parts before he welds them and takes the time to file and finish the braketry before he bolts or welds them on... sure the traditional hot rod owner may like to get his car dirty, spinning donuts out in the parkinglot behind the Billetproof show... but he'll probably go home and wash all that shit off...

The traditional rod or custom ISN'T a RAT ROD... RAT RODS are poorly crafted piles of shit that smoke, knock and break down... they are built by people that, under the guise of being "anti-billet", are showing the rest of the world they don't know shit about cars, history, style and skill... they do however know how to operate their Wal-Mart MIG welder...

I see these two groups as distinctly different styles of cars that get lumped together by the uninitiated... they live in harmony, but each has their own magazine... HopUp Mag for the Traditional Hot Rodder... and OSR for the RAT RODDER...

At least that's how I see it...

Sam.

Thats what the write up on the car said. Some old guy wanted it built like the HotWheels car. I still dont care ugly is ugly. And NO to answer the guy who said we would love it if it had a back window.

Forget the ugly car, how about all the ugly fat chicks? I enjoy ANY magazine that has kustoms, but if they are going to show girls dancing and hanging over cars... at least make them cover up the love-handles.

Sam,
Interesting point.

At the risk of jacking the thread, I'm going to ask you a personal question.
If OSR wanted to feature you and your car, would you let them?

Personally I don't think all this "Trad" vs. "rat rod" snobbery is necessary....
but you already know how I feel. [IMG]

NO WAY in HELL would Sam let those guys put his car in that mag- especially with that tough guy wanna be Fonzi writing. Sorry man but in 5 to 10 years that mag will look as dated as that eighties legend- "AUTOBUFF". Black primer, red wheels and terrible 4x4 stances will be remembered as fondly as those great rainbow colored "Street Machines" of the disco era. Instead od topless girls with "Flashdance" leg warmers you will remember a time when "Orcabetties" with "nice personalities" roamed free. More power to ya OSR- just try and develop a second dimension because it's really a waste of color to put all those black primered cars in the mag- it reminds me of a bunch of goths at a Hearse convention. Just as Buick 59's photography livened things up for OSR, perhaps a few HAMB writers could replace the "tough guy" stance with their talents?
And,as we previously stated, we are grateful for the offers of coverage being extended by members such as Buick59 and Stoner....

Maybe I'm missing something from the front, but if you cut a rear window into that, I'd bet that everyone here would say that was a great looking car.

i think sam hit the nail on the head, there is just a difference in low budget and pos!!! i didnt mean to create all of this osr bashing because i really like the mag all the rest of that issue was great(even though there wasnt a better pic of my car from viva j/k)!! i would have been pissed if any mag used this pos to represent the style of cars i am into. i would let them feature my car in a heart beat. sorry osr for the big beef!!!!!

LOL...right after my last post I ran over to the local B&N and sure enough it was there. And I agree with the over-tat'd gals. I like the 40s look and all...but not when your arms are painted like a teenager's notebook!

Maybe I'm just biased [IMG], but it seems to be that rockabilly music is often(and unjustly) blamed for the whole scenester problem. Its roots for us Americans here and for everyone else it provides something catchy to dance to at your local cruise in.Carl perkins is probably crying right now, you folks should be ashamed.
