  14. Yesterday I dedicated to changing out the 338ci Y that will go into my Model A Tudor for the 350ci Y that I hope will take Elwood into the "9s".

It's more than just a "swap out" as I have to change heads to use the front to back cooling and I also have to change the timing cover and I have a nice new oil pan with a windage tray and s****er.

While swaping these parts over I found something that makes a guy rather upset. I had a cam lobe failing. This is especially bad beacause I did everything correct on the break-in including light springs in the heads. The one lobe is down only .030 and it probably would have worked for a few p***es but I know it wasn't going to get any better. So I had another cam that I had groung for the dragster engine anyway (the one that is shown was ment for Jake and LSR) so I changed it out. Even with the engine out it's no small job to change the cam and lifters in a Y but it will be worth it.

I'm also going for a gear change so I need to do it be for the engine/trans goes back in. I hope to get it all ****oned up today. ;) Happy Easter! :D

  15. Hey Tim:

First time I saw this thread - duh! Really nice stuff - will be cool to see you get this engine on the track and hopefully capture some fast times. Very nicely done!

    B&S

  16. Thanks Dale! In two weeks we'll be at Famoso for ANRA. ;)

  17. Glad you caught the cam. We think I lost a lobe in the 54. It was built 10 years ago before we started noticing the lack of Zinc in the oils.

  18. Bummer here is I did everything right on the break-in. Correct oil, light springs and 2000 rpm. Everything seemed good. I guesss it's just one of those wild cards God throws at you now and then. I just tell myself it was ment to be and the thing will run that much better with the new cam. ;)

You just can't take these things too seriously. If I'm not having fun I might as well quit, and I'm having fun! :D

  19. OK! I work/played all afternoon and got the car ready to go back together. Most all the parts are on the engine and the trans is coupled back up. I didn't take a picture of them together though.

I did have a new pan made to work with the marine timing cover, the marine pan was big and "clunky" the new one has a windage try and a s****er. Also it looks quite nice. ;)

I also changed the gears to 4.11s from 4.33s, it always seemed to be out of breath by the end of the quarter. We'll see how it is now.

Messed up my paint a little too.

If I'm not too beat after work today I should be able to slip it all into the ch***is. We'll see, Mondays always wear me out. :p

Damn Tim your a man on a mission................

  23. Here's a little test run we did last night just to see that everything is working well before the weekend. If something is going to go wrong I don't want to have it happen on the strip.

Everything seems to be working except it has a wicked shimmy at high speed, I think my new front tires need to be balenced.

hummm looks like i need at least six seconds start.......

  26. The only thing I have good to report from yesterday is that Elwood and I came home in one piece. While staging for our first p*** the by-p*** in the oil pump stuck again only this time in the shut position. Pegged the gauge and blew a bunch of oil around the filter adaptor. So now we have a puddle of oil to clean up and have to go back to the pits to try and fix the problem. Without boring you... all with details after some PITA work in the HOT sun we got the pump working right and figured we could make a run. Took till around 2 pm till they called up the next round in my cl*** but we were ready, I thought. Fired up and it felt good, did my burn out and something just didn't feel right. But I was there and ready to go. Staged and launched. The whole run just didn't feel too good, the time slip and video prove it. It's almost like I wasn't hitting on all eight. Video is very shaky. Ran 11.571 @ 114.82 mph, I was hoping to run faster than last years 10.61 @ 129 mph.

Oh well! Back to work. It's still fun even when things don't go as planned.

  27. Not very good at all. You can see how shaky the car is and the sound just isn't right. I think I did more than just foul one plug when the oil pressure pegged. Also you can hear how it went right into third as I shifted to second.
