thanks for the advice, i appreciate it. but at the same time, if i do discover it is indeed warped and spend the time and money tearing it down, get it straightened and put back together....i may as well go buy another rear end.

    but i'm also lazy :D

    thanks man.

    take care

yea, i patched the hole up last night....and as i was welding it....this is pretty much what i was thinking....granted i was still careful and patient and didn't really let it get all that hot without taking a smoke break and letting it cool down.

the perches will go on this weekend....and then i'll just drive the f*ck outta it to "test it's strength" :D

    thanks

  7. If you can replace it for like $30-$40 at a you-pull-it yard, that's one thing, but any more than that and it's easier to just weld it.

weld it (??!!!) ..a little warped WTF!!!!!!!. a little is like .0005" !!! ,any more and your self aligning outer hub bearings are going to running/wobbling on the outers of the races...failure WILL happen !
Your housing IS warped .no doubt in my mind.

I'm calling ******** on this. I've talked to axle manufacturers and they tell me 1/8 inch isn't outrageous. Go measure ANY axle from the 60's .They ALL are further out than .0005. From the FACTORY. If you hit a bump the housing will move more than five ten thousanths. This guy isnt going 400 plus MPH on the thing.
There should be a commonly held myth /urban legend section of the HAMB and this
.0000000000005 **** should be at the top.

Oh yeah, a few thousandths isn't going to hurt a thing, I am talking about 1/8" or more. Once you start welding on a housing, it will warp, and the warping can be on one side or both. It can cause toe in or toe out, and can alter the camber of the rear tires either positive or negative.. It can be warped where you will have toe in and poistive camber on one side, and the opposite on the other side, or any combination of the four on either side. Your driving tires will not be going in the right direction. People go to great lengths to align the front tires, but totally ignore the rears which are just as important. Bottom line, if you are welding on a rear end housing, you better have it checked.
