Get over it. Nowhere did you say you've been busting your balls for them so how do you figure they owe you?

If you can get the stand much better to work on.But you can always do like I did.We umm found a shopping grocery cart ,got out the grinder cut off the four sections of the basket did away with taht and bam that's it.Put the engine on there and it rolls so you can move it. :)

I don't know about the laws in your area but if you get cuaght here chopping up a supermarket trolley it's called " dettinue and conversion" and can land you in jail.
Why do you need an engine Dolly?
you have a cherry picker to move the engine about.

Why do you need and engine stand?

lift the engine from the stang, move it across and lower it into the F1, you'll notice the engine mounts are very similar . Get it in place, set it up,get mobile then pull it out later once you have a permanent work space and detail it then.

The only way to get friends over consistently is to be a mechanical leader, not a follower.

You've got to know more, so they come over to learn.
You've got to work harder, so they come over to relax.
You've got to have a decent garage, so they're not laying in a mud puddle.
You've got to have better tools, so you're not borrowing theirs.

Even then, you'll find yourself doing alot alone. While friends marvel they just don't know how you do it all.........

An engine stand is a cheap investment compared to the benefit you get from it. I use carts to set engines on for storage so they are easy to move but you know that when you get that engine out you will start looking it over and see that it needs a pan gasket. Now what do you do with it setting on the pan?

The same can be said for the engine crane. I can't even remember how many times I have lifted very heavy things out of my truck alone with that crane. A few engines and a 60 gallon compressor come to mind. Also there was this anvil that I doubt 3 guys could have lifted.

Tools are never a bad investment. You said this is your first project like this so you will be needing this stuff again sooner or later.

All You Need Is A Simple Mover's Dolly Will Hold The Motor And Trans As 1 Unit And Allows You To Move It All Alone .right Now I Have A 302 Ford With An Aod Sitting On One In The Back Of My Warehouse. I Also Have An Engine Stand And Engine Dollys But The Movers Dolly Is The Easiest

Here's 1 new idea I didn't see, when you pull the motor use duct tape and a plastic bag over the tail shaft to reduce the mess. And buy the engine stand you won't regret it.Good luck

:confused:everyone keeps telling him to buy an engine stand...why?:confused::confused:
he needs to get his project mobile so his uncle can use his garage again,he's not going to get anywhere ******* around with an engine stand.
A few pointers on how to get his F1 mobile would be more to the point .

Yeah Mercmad, I was kinda thinking that...aside from the ******* and moaning about his friends. Just take the greasy running motor/trans and put it in the truck if you are under the gun. If not get a stand and reseal, paint, blah blah.

I've said it before and I'll say it again Craigs List for **** like this. Good quality Cherry Pickers and stands are on craigs list all the time. Spend a hundred bucks and you'll be set for years to come. Anyway you're the one that said this is your "First build" You'll need a lift and stand for your next few.

BUY THIS ...especially for a first timer on your own......then later you can lend this to the guy who YOUR GONNA BORROW the ENGINE CRANE from:D

I bet an eager young lad like you has already degreased the **** outta it while its still in the Mustang.......now, while its hanging in the air, shoot it with a rattlecan a coupla coats....after a hour, gently plop it down on (frikkin anything you dont need to pay for)...clear the pony outta your uncle's driveway and start fixin to get it in your PICKEMUP!

and then while your cruizin to the burger shack with Betty Sue and she's gabbin on about shoes and handbags, you can picture yourself MAYBE buying that 20 buck engine stand at a swap meet in 2 years, taking it home in the rotted wood deck of your funky little truck!!!

I can't believe how many people are recommending stealing someone else's property. Then, they would be the same people to get all upset when someone posts about getting their property stolen and say "shoot 'em on site". What a bunch of hippocrites with no morals. Sheeesh.

Hey brother,I know where you're coming from.I had a brother/law-friend like that once.
It's a doggone shame a shopping cart wouldn't come available so you could cut the basket off to make an engine dolly out of....
Like the other fellows said, never skimp on tools,God forbid you ever need money, but tools sell quick.
Good luck and remember,"To thine own self,be true!"

    purchase the stand. \

Make sure you bag and take detailed notes as you remove items. This way you won't spend hours, or even days figuring out what goes where.

You are learning the best way, by doing it.
I learn something new each time i play with the cars

    Have fun and be safe.

You run into issues come back to the HAMB and ask. Also sometimes all it takes is to get away from the car for a day to make things work again.

good luck and keep us posted.

If you don't have to separate the engine from the transmission don't. Get some moving dollies, thick plywood, and carpet for both pans. You should be able to paint engine, and roll around.

twenty years ago I built a car in the chicago metro area and ALWAYS could depend on someone to help if I got in a jam...most of the work I did myself and learning was huge fun. now after all these years I'm much older and have not been around any projects...got interested again and have been building for two years...Locale plays some role but people are just to damn busy with their own lives and stuff to help...I've even had a hard time hiring people to do jobs that I thought I could not do. bottom line...it ain't like it used to be. sad but true. my biggest source of help is right here on the hamb and my wife.
