I have an f1 steering box with a cut shaft about 12" in length. This is to be used in my Model A Coupe.

What are my options to complete the steering column/shaft? Do I weld on a knuckle? Do I replace the shaft entirely? Do I ditch it and get a complete unit? Weld yes/no?

    Thanks!

Hell yes weld on what you need to make it work . Use a sleeve that will slide over tightly the current shaft ,do a couple of rosette/plug welds on each side. Many ,many boxes have been fixed this way.

what condition is the box in, the rebuild parts can be pricey. if its good run it, use a joint(double D) or lengthen. which ever suits best.

  4. The only expensive part is the sector worm gear, the rest isn't too bad..

    As above if going straight.

Or use a steering universal joint to go at an angle. (I welded mine on...)
