IMHO, Because of the tall height of the smooth door skin, it is difficult to get a chop that "looks" correct. There is an old industrial designer rule of thumb that says that the window should be half as tall as the door skin. A stock '51 is really close to this. I would say leave it, but it is your truck, and you can do what ever you want to it. Good Luck.
Depends.....you want a stock truck to run around in or something a little bit cooler and more hot rod??? or even a full custom?? If you chop it then it has to be lowered a bit...here's a 3 in. chop....compared to stock height.
Without a doubt chopped is the way to go! As with most trucks of this era the are far to tall. 2" will take the to tall look out, but 4"+ make them look mean!
I like them chopped and unchopped depends on the build search f100 user name here on the board he has a really nice one IMO i will check too but idk how on the kids laptop to post pics
Chopped! I have a stocker and a chopped one. Side by side they always go straight for the chopped one. 4" quartered to keep things looking right. They where meant to be customized.
I thought about chopping mine when I built it, but couldn't decide wether to or not. So I guess if you're unsure don't do it till you are very sure. I'm happy I didn't.
My 48 Merc is chopped 4.5 inches and I think this is about the max, any more and will look out of proportions.
i like em either way as long as the chop is not to sevier , i like a big window cab with a chop more then a small window im really getting the urge to own a 50's F1
No chop. If I were to chop one it would only be <=2", which means too much work for a subtle design flaw. Just do the truck justice and don't make another ****py, half done, ugly, overchopped F1....
Nope, Leave it alone. Louver the hood, put big and littles on it, dropped axle, and some shiny paint. Nothing more needed than that. When you chop 'em they start to look like a cartoon. However I always wanted to see one with the cab channelled over the frame to the boards and the bed done the same with the Fenders higher and a pancaked hood. That would lower it overall without adding to the already tall flat door skin. Tim
Leave the roof stock and section the body. A lot more work for something really different. I think a guy named Chuck Porter chopped and sectioned a Ford pickup, looked pretty radical. Chris
