Here are some very rough "thinking out loud" sketches from a drawing pad I started years ago for a redesigned F-1. My approach was refinement of the original elements that I've loved ever since the F-1 was rather than a major redesign. I hope the sketches help set your friend's creative juices flowing. Please excuse the roughness of the sketches.

Here's one built by Larry Kramer over a decade ago. Not exactly traditional but still pretty slick. Now owned by a 13 year old in our club.

And here's an old photo composite sketch that's close to the vision I have had for this truck for years! (Disregard the ghost flames; they were on the truck whose photos I "borrowed" to do my composite.)

The chassis is a perimeter frame tube structure with the body dropped down to the runningboard level and with 6 inches lopped off the bottom. This drops the body height 10 inches without chopping the top, which I've planned not to do, all along.

Suspension is Series 3 Jaguar front and and rear subframes. In addition to excellent ride and handling performance, this drops the runningboard level another 4 inches. The final height at the top of the cab crown is about 60 inches, with excellent visability and cab room and comfort.

Anyway, you asked for ideas for doing an F-1, so this is my take on what I would do if I had unlimited funds and time . . .

    Im a slow typer , ain`t I !
Thomas have chopped the top 3 3/4" , Given it a 4" kickup in the rear , and a Ford LTD front-clip . Air-Ride`s up next .He is going for a conservative early custom-look , so your input will be very helpfull !!
BTW .. Almost forgot my fav..

Couldn't find a pic of the truck, but these two guys had the coolest F-1 of all......It would be one to repop with a 392 under the hood and all outward appearances of stock, except for a mild lowering.

Yes, from the beginning I've seen a coordinated beltline from the hood to the bed, tied to character lines passing through the fenders and the bed. It's a great look!

  22. i really like the way the grill is pinched to a VEE shape in you're sketches mike.

i got one too, but it's such a POS that it's not worth posting pics.

the chop on mine is not unlike the red one posted above.
i've always liked the idea of peaking the roof- DrJ mentioned this on another post. it would be cool to do that in conjunction with a TWO piece split window.
my plans are to keep it stock aside from the chop. i'd like to open up the windshild a bit- when they are chopped straight- the side windows are taller then the windshield opening and it gets too much "baldhead' goin' on.

    I'm working on mine today... '48 F1.
I love the grill, so I plan on keeping it stock. I might polish & clear coat the bars, and remove the small round lights.

Cab was chopped 4", and the space above the doors was sectioned (or would it be chopped?) 2". The body & hood were sectioned 5", and 4" was added to the length of cab (at the back).

No good pictures today, but I'll post an update by next week. It's my New Year's plan.

  25. Here's one of a F100 my brother did own. The frame on this truck still sat at stock height. Had been channeled over the frame but don't remember how much.

A friend of mine is working on a F-1 delivery that is really wild. I photo choped an origional F-1 to give him an idea what it will look like. He will have it running for the Stray kat 500.

Radshit, Is your truck a 4X4? Your truck looks alot lower in person. Ha, Ha!! One of the highlights of the HAMB drags was checking out your ride. You have one kool truck!! Have a Merry Christmas!!

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

    krylon,

was the front clip on that truck at stock height (as far as mounting it to the frame, anyway) with the cab channeled and the hood sectioned?

    or is the cab sectioned?

  28. Yes the front clip is at stock heigth with the cab channeled and hood sectioned.
