I've got 55 Ford truck frt. brakes/spindles/backing plates on my A. I want to run 17 inch Ford wire wheels. Will 40 ford drums fit? If they won't, can you run 40 drums/backing plates on the f1 spindles? Don't want to run wheel adapters. Any help much appreciated.

    55 brakes = 11 inch
    40 brakes = 12 inch

    You're missing an inch.

  3. I tried to run the F1 spindles with 40 brakes and could not come up with the inner bearing.

Rather than running the 55 F100 backing plates you could go to the F250 which are the same diameter as the finned Buick drums (not sure if the 40 brakes/drums will match the F250).

I think the 48-52 F-1 spindels take the same bearings as the 42-48 car spindles

The outside diameter of the f250's are to big and cannot be run with 40 style drums. And the shoes are too wide.
