Technical F1 spring shackle pins

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by zzebby, Nov 16, 2022.

  1. I needed new leaf springs all around on my 51 F1 and the fronts were a tough battle but got the old ones out. Started on the rear but stuck now. They are retained kinda like a king pin in a beam axle, I pulled the small cross pin but now how do I pull out the big shackle pin ? It is a blind hole and the little cross pin holds the big one. 70 years of rust will not give way easily. Ideas ? Weld something to the end ? Slide hammer in the grease fitting hole ??

Yeah I've tried that before & it just ******ed the threads out. But if you can rig up a slide hammer in the hole & then Weld the adapter to the pin you may have better luck. Heat & cool 1st!
I had to change some on an M37 long time ago & had to remove the hangers from the frame & Press them out!
Yeah they were riveted to the frame, what a PITA holding the hanger AND the spring in the Press!
