What changed what years on these , I have a 49 box and need parts , when did they change ? I have a 56 box and noticed the shaft is splined where the wheel mounts, while the 49 is tapered and keyed. Are the gears the same on the later ones?

I'm using a '51 F1 box and steering shaft. It's got a splined end. I needed a tapered and keyed type as I'm going to run a 40 steering wheel. I cut off a piece of shaft to graft from a 46-7 P/U .Are you sure the one you have is a '49? I thought all the F1 boxes (49-52)were the same.

No, '48 to '52 is the F1. I believe '48 -'56 used the same Gemmer 3 steering box. Not sure how late they were used...
