replacing wheel cylinders the question is does the brake hose come out with the wheel cylinder. Cant get a wrench on the hose end to remove the hose first. Anyone done it?
I usually brake the hose free while the wheel cylinder is still bolted to the backing plate. Once its broke loose then unbolt the wheel cylinder from the backing plate and you can spin the cylinder itself of the off of the hose. If its the original hose you may need vice grips to brake it free, and if its that old it should be replaced anyway.
What year is your pickup? I know the '65 F-100 the flexible brake line is removable and will unscrew, you probably need a flair nut wrench to remove it. HRP
It seems like I modified a wrench to break those loose back when I was doing brake jobs every day. I'd go along with unbolting it, pulling it out far enough to get a wrench on the hex on the hose and breaking it loose though. I did just what Nailhead Jason said on a lot of them in those days because it was a lot faster than fighting with them.
The 56 Ford wheel cylinders are designed the same as the later ones, the flexible line unscrews, shouldn't be a problem. HRP
if your replacing all the shoes and hardware, you should think about using a hardware and adjuster kit from a 65 f100. They use auto adjust hardware and fit the 56 100 brakes just right. that's what I have on my 31's deuce ch***is and for the front of my 39 sedan. I like the F1 and F100 brakes. they work great and look period.
You can't take the flex line off without first removing the hard line from the flexible rubber line, then take both cylinder and line out together and clamp in vise then remove flex.
