I did a search first but didn't find anything...

I have a '55 F100 steering box and am looking for a pitman arm for it. From what I understand, 56 and earlier pitman arms used a ball and socket connection to the drag link while the 57 and later used the 7 degree tie rod type connection.

Does anybody know what the best donor is for a straight pitman arm with the 7 degree hole! All of the ones I found are not straight (curved , etc...). Pics or part numbers would be helpful...

This is for my 26 T sedan on a model A frame...

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I put a '41 Ford arm on mine. Just filed the flats to v shape with a file. At least that' how I remember it. LOL

I'm not sure there is a different pitman arm you can use.

I have the same pitman arm and I had a friend cut off the ball and tig weld a 7 degree tapered hole from an old Ford spindle.

Butch 27 is right. I used a 41 Ford pitman arm and filed the flats with a v notch. Slid right on works fine.

Early Ford will not fit an F100 box.

You must be using an F1 box with a nut on the end of the shaft.
The 53 up F100's used a pinch bolt to hold the pitman arm and a totally different spline style.

Get a stock 57 pitman arm that hasn't been modified. I got one for my F100 box, and it works perfectly. (It is very close to straight).

Correct, the 57-60 pitman arm has the pinch bolt and the tapered end for a tie rod end. The 53-56 has the pinch bolt and a ball end. Far as i know these are the only pitman arms that are like this style with the pinch bolt. Just get a 57-60 pitman arm, and if needed you can heat it up to make perfectly straight. I believe they have a very slight angle at the pinch bolt end, but are close to straight as found on the trucks.
