or if someone has a set of 46-7-8 ford drums I got everything else. otherwise I have a set of ford truck brakes. There is a way to put these on I saw in a magazine once but I can't remember. you must have to change the bearing??? any help would be kool. thanks drew
to adapt 53-56 f-100 or 48-52 f-1 ford brakes to early ford spindles you must change the inner bearing to #14116 . for the seal use CR # 15761 or national # 473441. the 37-41 round spindles will require a little grinding on top for clearance to the wheel cylinder...this will be obvious when you fit them together. 42-48 square spindles require no grinding, just bolt on
The number given applies to all bearings of this type (tapered), regardless of manufacturer, so you can use a Koyo, NAPA etc besides the Timkin. The bearing's inner race must be modifed- rounded off to match the hub. If you don't do this the bearing will not seat right and you probably will never get it off. You can use a die grinder to do this. Look at your stock bearing and the 14116 and you will see the difference. Outer bearing is the same as early Ford. The seal you need is Victor 49195 or National 450461. After modifing the bearing, be sure to clean it thoroughly before using. Also, before you modify it, seal all exposed surfaces (inner and outer) with something like duct tape to protect it while grinding. The F1 brakes (48-52)do not fit like the F100 (53-56). I don't know just what the difference is, but I have heard that if you use the F1 spindle you can make the conversion. I have this setup on my T. email me if you have any questions.
