I've been hunting for one of these Ford hood scoops available on Ford's F600 and larger "Big Job" type trucks. I finally scored one and got around to mounting it on my 1953 F-100. I'm not used to cutting up my sheet metal, so although I had easily envisioned it in place, it took me about two weeks to getting around to actually doing it.

Well, a cardboard template, some blue tape, a pencil, drill and jigsaw along with my newly found nerves of steel and it was in place. Not having anything to use for placement along the rib of the hood, I went about centering it over the dual Strombergs and called it good.

I'm going to run it as is for a while before probably painting it the same red as my firewall, dash and wheels. It is most surely in for some pinstripes in the near future.

Looks fantastic. Wish I had thought of that a few years back I would have put one on my F-100.

nice!!!!! Here's my scoop i have been hiding in the garage. It came off a 56 T-750 Big Job cement truck.

i considered putting it on my 56 F100 but decided against it. I have the whole "fresh air" setup. here is also a picture of what the fresh air setup looked like from the factory.

Can i ask what you paid for the scoop?? ballpark. just curious what they are going for.

I remember those on the super duty Fords. a friend had one on his gasser 1969 ford dump truck with a 534 c. i.
As I recall they ran them backwards... opening to the rear and off set on the left of the hood.

Looks good on your f 100

I appreciate the positive feedback. My eldest son still is not sold on the idea, he couldn't believe that I cut up the hood. I told him that if nobody ever put hacksaw to metal, we wouldn't have all the cool chops and customs we love today. He sighed and just walked off...kids.

I think the next step is to have the grill of the scoop rechromed and clean up the wire mesh behind it. Last night I sketched out a pinstripe design too.

I'll post more pics when the lines are laid down...

What's the scoop made out of ....pot metal ?

also, if i'm not mistaken they also made a scoop that was squared off and not pointed at it's closed end.

After this style scoop was used, Ford went to the Louisville fiberglass tilt hood ( early 70's ) that had the round air intake formed into the hoods side. Both styles didn't allow for much of an air filter as it had to be mounted under the hood.
On a Kenworth or Peterbilt etc, they were mounted outside the hood where they could be run solo or tandum and pick up cooler air.

It is pot metal, about 1/8" thick...much heavier than you might first think. Another interesting note, at least to me when I was at Ace Hardware getting screws to affix it, Ford cast the proper screw size and threading into the underside near one of the screw holes. I'm not sure why, but I thought that was kinda cool.

I have a Ford "Big Job" truck hood scoop, but it's similar to the ones used on the Super Duty Pontiacs. The one I have will be mounted on my '62 Ford Fairlane (I'll see if I can find a pic).

    Thanks!

Simple, monoleafs with reverse eyes and correspondingly shorter shocks. However, if I were to do it over again, I think I'd have Eaton build me some multileaf springs with the drop I wanted and retain a bit more load capacity.

There is a old industrial junk yard about 30 miles from here with about 10-15 of those heavy duty trucks parked. Every one of them has had the scoop removed. I asked the owner over 20 years ago about the scoops and he said that everyone of those trucks were in the yard less than a month and the scoops were sold. Around here they were popular on tri5 Chevys that were built as gassers or Modified Production drag cars.
