I love the 429 Boss Mustang ..... as a kid I had a 69 with stock 2bbr 351 .... my buddy had a 1970 with a built 302. We worked for a week trying to stuff a stock 429 engine in his car .... It just would not fit. Eventually he found research that told us the big block cars the shock towers were 1" wider then the small block cars. ..... We ended up defeated and put his 302 back in .... there was nothing wrong with it ... he just wanted the big block with a 4spd.
They were a hard sell at the time. My local dealer had a couple that sat on his lot for a long time. I always liked them and often rode my bike down there to check them out. They were pretty hard to beat on the Winston circuit and today bring crazy money.
The Daytonas were supposedly a little more aerodynamic. I remember an owner telling me that the down force from the wing didn’t really work below 70 and the vent windows would slam shut at higher speeds.
A factory Nissan Sentra GT race car built by Nissan for a one make series [Scott ****son started out racing these when he was 13] These were cheap ,so you could drive it like you stole it [without any concern about financial ruin] I purchased this to share drives with my friends on club days I would race with them as a p***enger, then swap seats and compare results . My lack of Mechanical Sympathy and Self Preservation would scare the **** out of them.[especially when trail braking 2' off the *** of a car in front . All they see is the brake lights in front, but feel the car still accelerating] Good irresponsible fun !!!
Cant find a decent pic, but my favorite for a long time has been a 65 Z16 Chevelle. And related to it is its north of the border cousin, A L79 Acadian Beaumont.
Only came in red, black and yellow. No posi however I understand that they got excellent traction. I remember reading something about how the rear suspension worked but can’t remember where or how it worked Very cool car! Dan
They had convertible frames under them to resist twisting and even out the power between tires. Sorta.
I have,nt seen a Bolwell in at least 30 years. Another 1970s Aussie factory terror that comes to mind is the SLR 5000 Torana that the Aussie government actually banned. I,ve driven a few XU1 Torana and Aussie Valiant Charger E/48, they were fun test drives ( you could do that in the 1970s ) Never had the chance do drive a GTHO Falcon .
I can't let Ford have all the fun. 1969 L78 Chevelle SS. A pair of drag tires and you go from showroom to dragstrip in the 13's they claimed. I'd believe it.
1969 L78 Nova, 375/396 4 speed. I bet those rear tires lasted about a day! Article Here: https://www.motortrend.com/features/chevrolets-1969-l78-nova-ultimate-street-sleeper/
