Hey guys, new 57 fairlane owner. New to fords and cars of this vintage. Damn thing has a rattle from the front end/mid car. Originally I thought it was in the trans as my grandfather told me years ago it had a weak trans in it. However since I have put a couple miles on it I have been able to determine it’s bump related. Very loud and echos off buildings. Also very fluttery like a bad caster on a shopping car. Some times turns will aggravate it while applying brakes does the opposite. I have replaced idler arm bushings, tightened up a loose ball joint that was loose in the arm, kicked the bumpers, smacked the hubcaps, I don’t know where else to look. Anything common? You might want to check the center mount that attaches / aligns the whole front end. Front of the cross member there should be all shims, grommets, and so on.
Shock bushings? You mentioned it drives poorly... Bad control arm bushing? Think of what moves when you go over a bump.
